Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) follow the coordinates left in their father's journal and land in the middle of the woods where they investigate the disappearance of several campers. The two brothers soon learn they are dealing with a Wendigo, a creature made famous in Native America legends. A Wendigo is a former human whose cannibalism has transformed him into a creature with superhuman strength and speed that feasts on human flesh.

Eric Kripke wrote the episode directed by David Nutter

Yeah that's what I like about it! It's really different to anything else on TV at the moment.

It's nice to have a new show to get excited over! Apart from Lost I haven't experienced this in a while.

Lost always gets me excited but half the time I don't feel like I got much of a pay-off when it's over, lol.

I did like that they didn't really show the Wendigo 'til the very end—then it was sort of dark and obscured. Best way to make a monster scary is not to show it.

I could not agree more, leaving the viewer in the shadows about the monster is the best way to scare them. I remember the monster from Jeepers Creepers, I thought he was so freaky, That bit where they drive past and he dumps the body down the shoot then just stares at them was so creepy, but then when we got to see it I could not stop laughing!

Night Stalker was far better at psychological terror, I thought. Supernatural doesn't scare me at all.

I agree, the few eps I saw of Nightstalker were much freakier than Supernatual. Just didn't care about the protagonists enough. No moments of humor or lightness. But, I just saw like 3 eps of Nightstalker.

You know, part of the reason Supernatural isn't very scary is that Sam and Dean never seem very disturbed or confused about what's happening. They have an almost encyclopedic knowledge of American supernatural lore. They don't seem freaked enough by what they encounter.

Yeah I don't like that about Supernatural. No matter how much you've seen it, you should still be afraid of stuff like that. I know I would be.

Night Stalker did have scenes of humor after the pilot. Every episode had at least two or three funny parts to it. And I liked all the main characters, especially Jain.

I think that the point is that the lads have pretty much grown up with this stuff, which is why it doesn't phase them as it would if they were mere civilians. A good ep IMO made better, as someone said above, because we didn't actually see the Wendigo until near the end, and then we didn't really see it.
I stick with my "as good as stand-alone X-files" opinion as expressed previously :)

Yeah, I guess they see themselves as something like supernatural dogcatchers, lol. They aren't phased by all the pitbulls and rottwielers out there....

Even in The X-Files, Mulder was usually at least a tad freaked out by the really weird stuff.

...and Scully's skepticism helped to add depth to the show too. You had both perpectives about paranormal stuff, so all viewers could relate to at least one of the characters...

But honestly, I didn't even care that much about the epic alien invasion/hybrids/abductions arc on X-Files. I liked the supernatural stories more.

Yeah, same here. The mythology episodes were my least favorite.

This episode was ok.. not as great as the Pilot, but then again the Pilot was an amazing episode, and to beat that they would have had to do something huge.

Anyway... Did anyone else think that Creature/Wendigo looked a lot like the creature in the film “The Descent”. If you watched that film you will know what I'm talking about. ;)
