I thought this was a clever, hilarious, kinda disturbing, maybe overly harsh analysis of Supernatural, lol...

Erm...wow.

First of all...sexual tension? No, and gross. Who the hell wrote that?

Secondly, Supernatural is not a bad show, why does he/she/it watch it they think so?

There is an extremely disturbing amount of Supernatural websites, fan fiction, and Livejournal groups dedicated to S/D slash, and I think it's pretty sick. I mean - they're brothers! There is nothing there but a semi-accurate portrayal of two brothers.

And even though I dislike Sam, I wouldn't say he's feminine enough to be considered a "damsel". What the hell? I mean...he's not even metrosexual. Just because he doesn't put on the bad-ass act that Dean does doesn't mean anything.

But then again, the article is amusing in a sick way.

Well, some people like to over-analyze, psychoanalyze (like moi, for instance). I think the author was reading too much into things, but I thought she had some interesting points about Sam filling in as the "female archetype", so to speak.

But, they've actually saved eachother's asses, it's not just Dean doing all the hard work...Sam's more intellectual, maybe more cautious, more intuitive (with the psychic stuff).

It feels sorta like a college freshman's psych 101 paper—speculating just a little too much. And I think people tend to project their own feelings and attitudes onto drama, art...

Yeah, I think they just want to fantasize about the two main characters, lol. :)

Another thing a disagree with her about is the effects. They're not crappy. I'd say they're trendy. Like the sped-up, stop motion animation effects with some of the ghosts ('specially in the pilot with the woman in white). You see that kind of style in music videos and some movies these days...it's a little distracting sometimes, cos it looks like a stylized digital effect. But it's kinda freakishly cool.

I **LOVE** the ghost effects! Those are not crappy whatsoever. The pilot was the best of all. The flickering, staticky way Constance moved was really neat and creepy.

Maybe she means the effects like in "Bugs?" The insects and stuff were really fake looking.

The thing about "Bugs" I found dumb was just Dean with that little can of flaming bugspray or whatever it was, trying to take on a zillion insects, lol. That looked silly.

I dunno. The show's workin for me. I just hope it continues to improve...

Well I frankly found everything about "Bugs" to be dumb, but I liked it at the same time because there was lots of humor and great one-liners from Dean. So i that sense, it's superior to the AWFUL and HORRENDOUS "Route 666", which gets a 0/10 from me.

Back to the article though, I did think it was hilarious that in "Bugs" the brothers were mistaken for a couple several times. And when Dean slaps Sam on the butt and calls him "sweetheart" or "honey" or whatever...that's priceless. lol

Aww man, I forgot about that. Gotta go back and rewatch, lol.

This show does have comedy going for it...It's not like the show's creators were unaware of possible "gay" wisecracks from people....

I just relate to Sam and Dean 'cos it makes me think of me and my brother. We're complete opposites, tempermentally. But we've got a similar sense of humor...similar attitudes about some things. I don't know if I could actually stand going on a cross-country roadtrip with him though, heh.

Yeah, it reminds me of my brother to an extent and even a few of my friends, who I'm close to even though we don't have that much in common. My brother and I can't be around each other for too long without eventually getting on each other's nerves, but somehow I'm more lenient with my friends, lol.

I could never roadtrip with my brother. I don't know if I could with ANYONE. They'd probably annoy me too quickly. :)

And yeah, "Supernatural" has a great sense of humor. It wouldn't work if it didn't, because it's not scary either. People didn't like "Night Stalker" because it wasn't as humorous as The X-Files or Supernatural, but it had all the humor it needed - because it actually WAS creepy and disturbing and people cracking jokes would have ruined the mood.

For some reason, people are obsessed with finding slashy stuff in every show. It's kinda sad when they add that with incest - speaking of which, I recently discovered Sam/Dean shippers call it WINCEST (ew, huh?). But I guess it was inevitable seeing as how the only main characters are dudes. I wonder if there will be any more jokes like that in the future.

Yeah you should at least rewatch the first half of 'Bugs', lol.

I agree with the author on somethings. There is some sexual tension there. Whether it is meant to be between the boys or because of the fact that they don't nearly get enough sex to deal with what they do for a living-it's there. I, also, have come across numerous fan-based sites made solely for the purpose of writing and sharing slashy wincest fictions. Many of them are very well written. If you get past the fact that they are brothers, some of them are beautiful. 'Course that could be cause I'm a girl and I tend to imagine our favorite ghostie killin' brothers all sweaty and naked every episode. *cough* Anyhoo...

Perhaps the reason they watch the show is the same reason I continue to watch Gilmore Girls even though it annoys me to no end...they want to know if it can get any worse. It's like a bad movie you watch hoping it will get better, then it ends and you realized you just wasted two hours of your life watching that crap. Maybe the author just wants to know what happens in the end but doesn't care about the trip. Like skipping to the last few pages of a book to find out how it ends with out reading the middle. I don't know.

Sam may not be the strongest or most masculine person in the world but I don't think he comes across as a damsel. He's too "back up off me, bitch" for that. He is what he's supposed to be...the little brother. Dean is a little overprotective of him, but you can account that to the way they were raised.

All in all, the author was close on some things and off on others, but it's their opinion and I can't take that away.

So you think Supernatural is bad, too?

I seriously do not sense any sexual tension there and I don't think it's supposed to be implied, either. But if the show ever went in that direction, count me out. I mean...seriously.

Do I think the show is bad? No, I quite like the show. You must not be good at the whole recoginzing-what-people-are-feeling thing. You can totally see/feel the sexual tension. It's like walking into a room with two people that "hate" each other but are really aching to maul each other and get them in their bed. I can sense it, my friend can sense it, my friend's mom can sense it...hell, we all can.

I highly doubt they will make it a love story between two brothers. I can handle that on paper but actually seeing it out? No. That would totally ruin the show...not to mention it's illegal.

Well I'm usually pretty good at that too - I have two friends who I know want each other but they are in serious denial.

But I know lots of real-life brothers who give off the same vibe that Dean and Sam do - not sexual, IMO, lol. That's why I like the show. Because to me, it's a realistic portrayal of a strained relationship between two brothers. Except for the demon hunting thing.

Can you give me some examples to where you see this "sexual" tension? Maybe then I'll get where you're comin from, lol.

When they talk to each, the looks they give each other, random moments while around people. Most of the time, it's just brotherly. But some of the time you can sense the underlining tension there. Like I said, I don't think it is aimed at sexual tension between the two as much as sexual tension in general. That's why I said earlier "yay for Dean, he got laid. Maybe now he'll be a little less high strung" or something like that. Whatever anyone says about them, they're men in their early/mid twenties-near the height of their sexual peak-there's gonna be tension.

Hmmm that makes more sense. Maybe just brotherly tension between them and they just need to get laid to relax? haha

Hell, I've been saying that for months but everytime I do, I get bitched out by someone. Take Psycho_lullaby for example. I was royally bitched out with their whole "Why Dean Shouldn't Have Sex" topic on tv.com.

:jumping38 that is so cool.

Never said he needed to become a man-whore. He had sex once with his ex. Poor Dean, everyone's so against him getting laid.

Well...look at Buffy. In season six, she turned into a total slut. I hated season 6 Buffy. She was a bitch too. Didn't like it all.

Sex can ruin a show.

And I'd rather have Dean scew some fine, hott succubus lady rather than that horrid ex-girlfriend of his.

Never watched season six of buffy. Stopped watching when David Boreanaz got his own show. I didn't even know Spike was still on that show until they talked about him being on Angel. I went back and watched a few episodes, but they annoyed me too much so I just settled with watching Angel and Spike fighting in season five of Angel.

Some "hott succubus lady" huh? Well that will probably happen at some point in time on this show. Lord knows that's definately a way to get to the guys. Even if he did screw a succubus it would most likely be someone he has had sex with. In most succubus lore they say you either have to had dreamed about it or actually had sex with the person before they can take their shape and use it against the guy.

As much as we have seen of these guys, we still really don't know much about them. Where they grew up, what schools they went to, if they went to prom, why the frat guys believed Dean when he said they were transfers from Ohio even though his car had a Kansas license plate...

I'm sure exes and other past people will come up at some point in time. And if it just so happens that Dean jumps into bed with them and we get another lovely shot of his beautiful back...well that's just a completely different matter.
