View Full Version : 5 Shows You Want Back

Imagine you had the chance to give any five shows that were canceled before their time a second chance, to get a long nice run and a proper ending. What would they be?

My top five:

Point Pleasant
Miracles
Roar
Tru Calling
Veritas: The Quest

Hopefully I won't be adding Night Stalker to that list anytime soon.

Don't think a lot of you will recognize most of the shows on my list, but I sure loved 'em...and they deserved a longer run than they received. These are definitely the ones I'd bring back....

American Gothic

Glory Days

Brimstone

VR5

Tru Calling

QuietCool...I bought Glory Days from a guy online a few weeks ago on blind faith...I really enjoyed it! However, it's kinda corny because of the way they explain the "weird things" in the end. Don't you think it would've been better if it was just supernatural in the first place?

I love American Gothic and Brimstone as well.

I can't believe you actually found episodes of Glory Days! You truly lucked out. Fans of that show (myself included) have found it pretty near impossible to acquire any. Not even Ebay has it. Although I understand that there are Glory Days "movies" floating around Europe on DVD (really just episodes crammed together to form a full length "flick"). Glad you liked it though, it really wasn't such a bad show. I wish more peeps had watched it.

What I liked most about Glory Days was that you never knew what was gonna happen next. Fire bad, unpredictablity good.

Yes, the show could have simply gone with the arcane from the start, rather than with the explainable. Perhaps they would have worked towards a more supernatural angle had they been allowed to continue the show. Not implausible. I mean, Night Stalker did the reverse of that in the recent "Burning Man" episode, with the "non-supernatural" threat.

American Gothic was a gem of a show, wasn't it? I loved that show. It was loco, and I like loco. Lol. Too bad it was treated so badly by CBS. Episodes aired out of sequence, and time slots switched until the show was unceremoniously dropped. Always a recipe for disaster. (Can you say Firefly?) The show was recently released on DVD, so that's a big "yay".

And Brimstone, that was spooky fun. Remember that episode with the "Typhoid Mary" spirit/demon? My fave. Wish I could find that one.

The guy I bought it from also has Brimstone. If you want a link PM me. About Glory Days...the pilot was my favorite episode. That's all I have to say. The others, while truly entertaining and unique, would've worked much better if they were supernatural-themed. The devil possession episode, the vampire girls, etc.

I wanted American Gothic on DVD but I'm passing. I hear the set it awful. The episodes are out of order (how hard is it to put episodes in order on DVD?!?!) and the discs are doublesided, plus they skip and jump around, making it very hard to watch. Sorry, Universal, you gotta do better than that.

Actually I haven't seen all of American Gothic, I downloaded some episodes but they were in terrible quality. I saw about seven, but it was awesome. I might get the DVDs on Netflix and hope they are watchable.

If you like Brimstone, check out The Collector. www.thecollectortv.com It's better than Brimstone, IMO.

Also, I'd like to mention how much I love Shaun Cassidy. I'm a huge fan of "Roar", and I taped all the episodes of it on Sci Fi. I'm also a big fan of "Invasion". And I can't believe FOX pulled "Hollyweird" from the schedule before it aired.

Buffy
Angel
Firefly

I haven't really seen any others, apart from the currently running Hex. But I'd love it if they indeed made a Star Wars TV-series, would love for it to be set in the KotoR-time.

There's really only two shows I'd like to return.

Tru Calling - Such a good show cancelled without even reaching a climax.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer - I grew up with this show, it's the mother of all Supernatural shows today. A spinoff would be great. :p

OMG this is hard there are so many, ok top 5:

Buffy
Angel
Dark Angel
Point Pleasant
Roswell

and then if I was aloud to chooses a sixth it would be Tru Calling!

Buffy the Vampire Slayer - The BEST show out there, whether it's still airing or not ;). BtVs was what brought me into the Supernatural/sci-fi/horror type like shows, and it'll always be my favorite. (Along with my second pick...)

Angel - The most succsessful spin-off out there (In my opinion at least), Angel was yet another opprotunity to explore more of Whedons infamous Buffy-Verse. It brought some of my favorite characters to the screen, and I really didn't see the need to end either BtVs or Angel. Both had a huge fan base, and were extremely succsessful. Stupid WB people -_-''.

Tru Calling - What was not to love about Tru Calling? It starred Eliza Dushku, which obviously ensured I'd be a die hard fan of the show until it (unfortunatly) ended. The show was extremely original, and not like anything out on television now or then. Once again, didn't see the need to end it -- and I would love to see it back!

Dark Angel - Although it's definitely been a while, Dark Angel was an awesome show while it lasted as well. I don't remember much of it, however - considering I was pretty young when it was airing...but I'd love to have it back as well. Jessica Alba's another amazing actress, and she pulled off her role on Dark Angel very well.

Those are the only four I really had to watch every second they came on (Whether it to a re-run or a new episode), and I haven't really been exposed to a lot of the other sci-fi shows. Although if I had to pick another I would most likely go with Point Pleasent. I only caught a handful of episodes, and missed quite a lot...but from what I saw it had the potential to become a great show. But once again, it had to get canceled -_-.

Mmm let's see...

Farscape - best show ever
Wonderfalls - most quirky
Firefly - most unique characters
Strange luck - a show that played with the deux ex machina on purpose
Angel - seriously, do I need to explain?

I think Buffy ended on a good point for me.

I was operating on the assumption that Buffy and Angel had a long life as a show.

Angel had a better ending for Buffy for me, but I can't stop thinking about what they had planned for Illyria.

Angel, maybe could continue, but as much as I enjoy Buffy, it got SEVEN seasons. That's enough, I think. It ran its course and if it had went on longer it would've lost its charm, I think.

Okay, I want to change my answer, cause I forgot about Prey - one of the best shows ever and cancelled way too soon!

This is kinda freaky, Vilandra. I just got an episode of Prey last week and watched the pilot, and loved it. haha

Okay I would have to say

Buffy:- Nothing comes close to fulfilling the gap left by the end of this show!

Angel:- Did they get out of the Alleyway! I hated the ending.

Tru Calling:- Why cancel such a great show? I have so many unanswered questions.

Point Pleasant:- Another great show. Some people e.g. TV company execs need to have their eyes checked for cancelling it.

Roswell:- Well I was majorly P'd off when this was cancelled because it meant that we didn't get to see all of it on BBC2. I only got to see Season 1,2 and part of 3. I'm watching Season 4 on Sky at the moment and I get to see some repeats on Sci Fi everynow and again, but it's not the same. I need to buy the DVD's!

Well that means you got to see more of it then we did because there is only 3 seasons, lol.

Isn't it funny how the fans all seem to watch similar shows, Its so annoying because they are the shows that get cancelled, so it feels like they are picking on us :(

Hehe, how dumb am I. I meant to say season 1 and 2 and now i'm watching 3. You see BBC, did this to me, I'm all confused about what i've seen and what I haven't seen! Doh!

Buffy
Angel
Tru Calling- It was a great show and fox should be [uses profanity] lol anyways they shouldn't have cancelled it :)

Velvet Sky

Let's see... there's so many shows I've loved that got axed way too soon.

Dark Angel
Point Pleasant
Wonderfalls

Now it gets hard I'm torn between Roswell, Angel, and Farscape. All got more time than the other three on my list with Roswell going 3 seasons, Angel 5, and Farscape 4 and finally getting a Mini Series (which I hope will be followed with another mini series). There was still so much more to explore with these.

Okay, I'm going to choose
Angel
Farscape

Because Roswell seemed to wane a little, but that was perhaps due to the insanity of not knowing if they would be dropped at any time. But Angel I think was canceled in it's prime. It could have gone another couple years. I STILL can't believe that WB canned Angel but renewed Charmed! (and don't get me wrong, even now I still watch Charmed, even though I gotta say it's really seen better days). And Farscape... it was the best space Scifi I'd seen in a while, and it totally had more to offer. SciFi channel totally sucked on that one, espcially after having previously said Farscape would get two more seasons and then changed it's mind.

I vaguely remember this show...I think I only caught the pilot episode. Isn't that the one where they discovered a new genetically superior form of man?

Angel- Even though it ended too soon, I thought the whole last season was a perfect sendoff.
Tru Calling
Point Pleasant

Point Pleasant
Okay, I know it got some stinging criticism, but I just don't get why that happened. I notice that a lot of people here obviously agree with me. It's my favourite show since 'Buffy' and I think it deserved a whole lot better than it got.

Tru Calling
It was flawed but it had real potential. In fact, I liked the early episodes and it was definitely finding its identity by the end of the first season. These shows are just not being given a fair run these days.

Firefly
To be perfectly honest, I'm not a fan of 'Firefly'. I bought the DVD and watched it three times but it never really grabbed me. However, it was clearly a good show that deserved to continue and I know how much it would have meant to the fans to see it develop.

Angel
The same goes for 'Angel'. In fact, I've not even seen the fifth season. However, the decision to bring it to an end seemed to come out of nowhere at a time when the show was picking up some very good reviews. At least it got five seasons. These days shows are being cancelled almost before they've even started!

I guess that's about it for me. 'Dr Who' would have been my only other choice but, hey, it's back - and triumphantly so! I reckon 'Buffy' is the greatest TV show ever made but I was more than happy with the seven seasons. For me, it didn't need to go any further than that.

Angel
Firefly
Wonderfalls
Tru Calling

I think Buffy got a proper sendoff. It really had a good closing and everything was tied up extremely well, I thought. But these ... ended WAY too soon. I'm still sore about them all. Funny how three out of the four was FOX's fault ... sodding wankers.

Black Eye Guy
12-14-2005, 06:09 PM
Lets blame Fox for the forth one just outta spite, lol.

I for some reason got the biggest craving to watch Dark angel over the last few days, I think it's from talking about Velvets Sky's RPG :), so I am watching the pilot now, I wish it had not been cancelled, I miss and love it sooooo much!

Only show I would really want back is Firefly, I think it really deserved more than one really short season... Would have made a few more great episodes for sure..

When it comes to Angel and Buffy, I love the way both those shows ended. Love the finales, and the last seasons (or most parts of them)... So, I wouldn't want them back now, would just be weird.

And I'm sure that if I had watched Wonderfalls, I would have wanted that one back as well.. I'm sure I'd love that show if I just watched it, heh.

Wonderfalls
Dead Like Me
The Inside
The Lone Gunmen
Red Dwarf

Kudos with your sig and yes I know. I really loved Wonderfalls, it was so quirky and total randomness. :) Inanimate objects who can talk, so awesomeness.
