From The WB (http://www.thewb.com):
A young couple is murdered in their home shortly after buying an antique painting of a family portrait circa 1910. Upon reviewing the painting's provenance, Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) learn that everyone who has ever bought the painting has been murdered and race to discover how the portrait is causing the deaths before it can claim its next victim.
The episode was written by David Ehrman and directed by Phil Sgriccia.
The preview at TV.com looked really awesome, it looks like there are gonna be some funny scenes.

Well, since I never post in this threads, I decided I would.
It was a pretty cool episode. It showed the guys do more then just drive around and fight demons. They also hit on and have sex with girls. And its also nice to see Sam over his "I'm betraying Jess if I get with anyone" phase. And he got together with a totally hot girl.

No, but they did kiss a whole lot. Yay for Sam. It's about time he gets a girl.
My favorite parts had to have been the car plate that said "The Krip" and the motel room. I missed the whole rest of the scene cause I was laughing so hard. They both look around say "huh" at the same time and move into it. That was great.
I missed the part where they were in the crypt the first time. My tv went to a blank black screen so I have no idea what happened in there.
I loved the music this episode. It was cool. Branched out a little from the rock but not too much. The rock is cool but it's nice to take a break some times.
I loved Dean. He was great. Trying to get Sam to go out with Sarah and move on a little from Jess. It was sweet yet still like a guy. Had me and my fangirlness squeeing.
Little girl=creepy. I hate children in horror movies. For some reason they're so creepy. A lot creepier than the dad doing it. But you knew it wasn't him doing it 'cause that would have been way too easy.
I cracked up at Dean when he was in the crypt burning the doll. The whole time I'm screaming at my tv "SHOOT IT! SHOOT IT YOU POOF!" Finally, he listened. Gotta love that they are human and can forget they are holding a gun in their hands. I hate it when that happens. You're looking all over for something and then realize you've been carrying it the whole time. Hehe.
I thought it was a pretty good episode. I liked it a lot.

Loved, loved the guys' reactions to the, um, porn set motel.
I thought it was a pretty good episode. I'm really not crazy about the dumbing-down Dean once again. Why, guys?
I loved the Da Vinci Code line--about waiting until the movie comes out. I identify.
Several things made me jump. A couple of my best friends were watching it with me, and Jeremy, big, tall, 6'4" Jeremy, jumped a mile when Daddy Dearest moved in the painting in the opening teaser. And I almost laughed myself out of my chair. Hee hee.
But, I jumped when the old woman's head came off. And then, I jumped when Daddy Dearest turned and stared right at Dean, Sam, and Sarah. Then, I jumped when the girl appeared right in front of Sarah at the end.
Plus, I was pleasantly surprised at the twist at the end.
I liked this episode a lot.

I finally just now watched this episode, and I really loved it...it's probably my favorite now, along with the pilot and "Nightmare".
Even though I was not freaked out at all by any part of this episode (which I hope every week I will be), it was still really entertaining and closer in quality to the pilot than any episode has been this entire season!
Unfortunately I accidentally clicked on a thread at TV.com before viewing the episode and, of course, my eyes immediately fell on a post talking about the twist with the girl, so that was ruined, but I still liked it...the ghost was cool looking and flickered like the Woman in White did...nice consistancy, I thought. But when she disappeared, it still seems TOO much like Charmed...I always thought that the vanquishings on that show were extremely anti-climatic and un-exciting after all the build up, but I can't really think of a way to make it more dramatic at the moment so I guess I shouldn't complain.
Oh, and "The Krip" was funny - kudos to the writers for that little inside joke! lol. I wonder if Kripke was in the background during the party.
And, once again, the writers failed with the way they tried to deliver the creeps and handle the deaths. The mood was wrong, and the pacing was too fast...they could have tried to build suspense, but they didn't TRY at all. And if they're not going to do that they should show as much blood and gore as possible on network TV, IMO. Speaking of gore, that reminds me of the "arm soup" in "Home" - now THAT was awesome. (Extremely gross, but awesome.)
And that Sarah girl reminded me of Shannen Doherty in several shots...it was weird.

You really believed it was the father in the painting but only till they burned the bones that they realise it was the girl all along! nice twist though.
It was great to see sam move on a bit after Jess too.

Rewatching it now...and yes, this is definitely one of the best episodes of season one.

I liked this episode, especially the creepy little girl. I was like, 'that's bloody awesome!'
I liked how they did the makeup for her.
