Eh, I'd take Threshold over Star Trek any day.

I loved Trek in it's day. The Original was a true sci-fi wonder, that was fun and entertaining, with interesting and relevant stories.
Next Generation was fun, amazing, less campy than the original, wonderful characters, cool stories that usually were stand alone, but certain threads came back again such as the Borg, and the wonderful Q.
Deep Space Nine was probably my favorite of the Trek franchise. It was funny, thoughtful, interesting, relevant stories, with very stand alone episodes, but also with I think more of a continuing storyline feel than the others with the Dominion arch. This Trek seemed to be one people either loved or hated, probably for the same reason, it's darker quality and storylines involving the war, and the fact that the station remained stationary.
Voyager, I admit, I didn't watch every episode of this one. And there were little things about it that showed signs of weakness. Like it's tendancy to rely on bringing in staples from Next Gen to up it's ratings. (Q, the Borg, guests from Next Gen, etc.) But all in all, it was still an enjoyable show where it's good stuff out weighed it's bad stuff. IMO anyway...
And up to that point, while Braga had taken over the lead of the franchise following Roddenberry's death, I believe. There were generally other people at the Creative forfront of things. Jeri Taylor I believe was a big force on Voyager, and from like season 3 on Ira Steven Behr was the driving force behind DS9.
But for Enterprise Braga took on more of a creative role, and suddenly any notions of ideas that while perhaps not solidly stated as for sure in other Treks, but were hinted and assumed by all, where suddenly trashed for the sake of familar sights of Klingons (who were not supposed to be known till later, as with many other species that were trooped through because Braga apparently thought it was what the fans wanted). I tried Enterprise as did my mom (who was a Trekkie from the Original), but we both wound up giving up on it due to frustrations with storylines and characters.
Personally, I'm kind of glad, I'd like to see someone else perhaps try a hand at saving the franchise. Because it's seriouslly been suffering in recent years.

The Canmag.com Web site reported a rumor that William Shatner is one of the former Star Trek captains who would appear in a proposed new Trek movie set in the "mirror" universe.

UGH let Star Trek DIE already! Or at least let it take a break instead of constantly reviving it.

Especially under this supposed premise. Mirror Universe movie? May as well just call it Star Trek 11: Box Office Flop and be done with it!
I actually just posted something at BB yesterday about how i couldn't figure out how the PtB at Star Trek coud have been so stupid as to screw up a franchise as strong and popular as Star Trek was. I'm not a fan of the shows myself anymore but i do believe that in the proper hands a concept like Star Trek could have kept going indefinately. From what i've seen of reports of Enterprise season 4, in the hands of Manny Coto, the show was starting to improve and get better ratings. In my mind the one mistake they made was allow the same two people to run the shows for so long. Berman and Braga were out of good ideas long before Voyager ended and they should never have been allowed to create the next spinoff show. It was just asking it to fail, as we saw happen.
Like i said, i haven't really watched Star Trek in years but i do still have an affection for the franchise so it's a great shame to me to see it in the state it's currently left in.
But NO MIRROR UNIVERSE MOVIE!!!! It's a very, very dumb idea! People don't care enough about the true Star Trek universe right now to support a new movie so why would they want to watch this? Don't do it!!!

Well speaking as an avid Star Trek fan, I was really looking forward to a new Star Trek movie. I don't think its been overdone. And the mirror universe was a better idea then having another movie where the Enterprise gets destroyed. You wanna talk overdone? The fact that they are gone make another Jurassic Park movie, and even that they are gonna have 3 more Star Wars movies. What's the point?
Its kinda hard to keep a series along the same lines as it was when the creator dies. Just imagine what BTVS or ATS would've been like if Joss Whedon had died. Would that've meant you would've stopped watching it? I think not. Speaking for other fellow Trek fans, we would love another movie and if you don't want to watch it, don't watch it.

They're NOT making 3 more Star Wars; that's just an urban legend... at least, for now!
As for another Jurassic Park... ur totally right ;)

Yeah, when I was 6 and saw Return of the Jedi, the rumor that there would be three more and three prequels was born :) And see how long it took for the prequels...

I heard that there was always 3 prequels planned, even when they were making the first ones. Could've been a false rumor, I suppose.
Vilandra

Well that was the rumor at the time...my point was that I don't envision the three sequels happening :)

12-24-2005, 09:41 PM
Oh well I wasn't even really referring to that, but yeah, I don't think they'll do another trilogy. People would eventually get tired of them. At least -- I *hope* they don't do any more.

I hope that maybe in 20 years, he'll do it once again, but certainly not yet.

Well they can't really do them, cause all the original actors are too old now...

Well, there was a rumor on the net, (I'm trying to find the article) that said that George Lucas had sold the rights to the sequels to Steven Spielberg. But right now, I'm just reading articles about the spin-off movies he's planning, about the sith back stories. (I'm going to post that article in a separate thread.)
But yes, there will be a 4th Jurassic Park movie in 2006 and also a 4th Indiana Jones movie as well.

Everything's a remake, a franchise or franchise reboot in Hollywood. So sad. JJ's better than this.
I'm holding off my opinion until I see Mission Impossible III. That being said, you've got to wonder what he's thinking. What's with the sequels, when he can come up with those great original ideas.

This has the potential to be the "Batman Begins" of the Trek franchise. As in, a hot young genX upstart director comes in to tweak, re-imagine a musty old concept...
That being said—ugh, heh.

I hate Star Trek, so I won't be seeing it, I don't care if J.J. is in charge or not. But since it's out in 2008, I hope it's LATE 2008 so he can work on Lost for a few months. This actually pisses me off that he's directing this, I was hoping he'd take time off and work on his shows.

Agreed. It doesn't surprise me that he'd want to make the jump to movies, but...he should commit to one thing or the other. Joss stretched himself too thin and the buffyverse suffered, IMO.
Besides, TV is better than 90% of the crap movies out there now...
