Frank Spotnitz, the mastermind behind much of the mythology of The X-Files, told SCI FI Wire that he has signed on to help write the next movie based on the hit series, but that the new movie won't deal with the show's byzantine conspiracy arc.

Gaahhh, i'm torn.
I love the X-Files. I love the X-Files Movie. I love the idea of a new Movie, but to set it like a 'Stand-Alone' episode away from the Alien Conspiracy i'm not sure.
Don't get me wrong, some of the best episodes were the Stand-Aloners, but with the way that the show ended, what with the confirmation date of the Alien Invasion, Fox and Dana running from the the Military/FB Aiii(sorry, watched Ali G lastnight) and teh conclusion that the truth maybe too much for either of them, but that they believe each in each other and in it.
Add to that all the people that had been their adversaries over the years that were there to help them escape, because all that matters is the truth...gahh, how can they not follow this in the movie......I'm sorry i know i'm asking for X-Files the Movie 2:Independance Day, but i kinda feel we deserve it.
As loyal fans who have backed the show even at its worst(and lets be honest, it got pretty bad), don't we deserve to have an X-Files movie where we see what Chris Carter has in mind for this inevitable, unstoppable Invasion, and the whole 'Where theres hope theres a chance' message coming through.
I love the show, but i don't think it is strong enough to warrant a new Movie Franchise, which is what any movie of this nature is hoping for, so rather than opening like its suggesting, it should give the fans what ever they want...at least then we have that. Then IF there is enough interst to start a X-Files franchise, you have prequels or you have something to move on from, whatever.

Sorry, a simple comment turned into rant, wow i didn't realise what effect the loss of 'Invasion' really did have on me:(

I'm addicted to arc TV, but I'm one of those that was never really swept up by the X-Files alien invasion story. Preferred the standalones. I felt like the arc lost its power and mystique the more you learned about it. (but maybe that's because they just went two or three seasons longer than they should have.)

I do understand the desire for ID2, heh. I guess if FOX has a spare couple hundred million lying around...

With those characters, Mulder and Scully, I prefer the X-Files grounding in everyday reality, the ever so slight tweaking of one's perspective. It was the chemistry, personality conflicts and the philosophical, metaphysical issues that came up that I really got into...and the humor...

I guess if they could balance the epic story with enough intimate character moments, could be fun...

Some of my fave episodes are the stand-alone...i mean does anyone remember the 'Elephant Man-type' character with a Cher fixation...or the 'DreamLand' double episode(OK, aliens involved but it wasn't the focus) with Michael McKean...i could go on.
Yes it went on far too long, but with the ending it had, i really don't feel it should be a stand alone, just simply because Fox was on the run, he'd learned the impending onslaught had a 'date' all the key players were on his side, or at least helping him see the 'Truth' Doggett and Scully knew that whatever was happening, Fox was right all along, or at least knew there was enough evidence to support him to themselves.

No, i would feel a tad 'jipped' if that isnt fullfilled.
By all means after that do some Stand-Alone X-Files movies, but there are still questions that need answers.

Ohhh man, i loved 'Modern Prometheus'.
The Episode was just so great, and the Black and White effect and ending at a Cher Concert was perfect.

Ohh man, i need to have some 'X-Files', Skins, AVs, Threads.....anyone?

If you'd like an X-Files skin request it in the thread for style requests thread and Vil will get around to it eventually, I'm sure.

Anyway, I'm with goldenboy. I love arc television, but The X-Files' alien story was uninteresting. I MUCH prefer the standalone episodes. Well...I was intrigued by the supersoldier thing and wished they would've gone more into that but I guess I was alone in that.
