Love and Monsters, and the Fandom Metaphor

In the recent episode Love and Monsters there's an obvious metaphor directed at Sci Fi fandom.

OK, so if LINDA represents fans, and the Doctor represents the object of fan affection, what does the Absorbaloff represent?

I think it represents the studios and networks. They'd like to absorb the fan movement, so that it does nothing except what's under their control.

I totally missd this metaphor when I watched but it does make allot of sense. Not my fav ep of the series though.
