Superman Flies To IMAX

Superman Returns, Bryan Singer's upcoming new installment in the superhero film franchise, will premiere simultaneously in conventional theaters and in IMAX giant-screen theaters on June 30, 2006, IMAX and Warner Brothers announced. The fifth Superman movie will be one of five movies to roll out on IMAX and conventional screens next year; others include 3-D versions of the animated films The Ant Bully and Happy Feet.

The 35mm version of Superman Returns will be digitally remastered for its IMAX version.

On Nov. 18, the upcoming fourth Harry Potter movie, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, will also debut simultaneously on 70 IMAX screens as well as in conventional theaters.

Dumb question, but what is IMAX anyway?! I don't think we have it here in Europe.

They're HUGE HUGE HUGE screens that are so freakin big they practically make you sick from vertigo just watching. Everything seems very real because it seems like you're in it.

They're usually in like science museums/planetarium type places. They make films specifically for it, like I remember one was The Living Seas. IIRC it's like the screen goes like in a half dome on the ceiling. But yeah it makes you feel like you're in the movie - like you're flying for example if they're giving you a bird's eye view shot.

I think we only have one in Ireland! We are such a tiny country, lol.

Seeing Superman Returns in one of those would be awesome. Only problem is that we've only got one in Sweden and the only thing they show are documentaries.

Anyone knows if there are any in the UK and where?

I saw Harry Potter and loved it. It would be sweet if I could see it on the IMAX.

Turns out we do have IMAX in the Netherlands, but only one in the entire country. It's somewhere in the middle of the country, so it's a 1,5 to 2 hour drive from the furthest away corner of our little country. For me it's a 1 hour drive or train ride, so I don't think I'll get to see it on IMAX, although I do think I oughtta see a movie on IMAX once... hmm, well maybe if my friends feel like it... Sorry, end of rant.
