I'm going through some serious Doctor Who withdrawals, so I'm rewatching Season Two.

Just thought I'd post some impressions here, just because I feel like it.

Starting from least favourite I think New Earth is stupid in a way that's beyond forgivable. It doesn't serve well for repeat viewings. It's just silly. It's a cartoon. I expect more from the Doctor.

Stepping radically up to School reunion, this was my favourite at one time. I've seen it a few times now though, and I don't really feel a need to see it again. It's slipped down my ratings chart a bit, not because of any flaws, but because I'm finding other eps are so much more rewatchable.

The Girl in the Fireplace is my new favourite (but I haven't made it to the finale for a rewatch yet). I swear I can rewatch this as many times as I can click the buttons, and see something new every time. I'm really liking the writer Steven Moffat (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steven_Moffat). Apparently he also wrote the 2 parter from Season 1 The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances, and he's doing a spin on the Doctor Jekyll and Mr. Hyde story in Season 3 called Jekyll.

Damn...didn't * tape * Tooth and Claw yet. I really want to see that one again. I still haven't seen the first part of the 2 parter before Satan Pit.

Well I've only watched three episodes of the series and the whole THING is basically a cartoon...I mean, plastic people, a woman who's nothing but stretched out skin....it's a very ridiculous and cartoony show anyway.

New Earth is the second episode concerning the woman with the stretchy skin, and we agree they're both cartoony, or at least have cartoonish aspects. However if the insinuation is the entire series lacks depth I'd suggest you've either seen the wrong 3 episodes, or missed stuff in the ones you've seen. Stick with it.

Seriously, this isn't Supernatural. A surface impression of what's going on isn't necessarily the correct one.

Well I didn't mean to imply that the show was stupid or anything, I was just saying that very silly and cartoonish things seem to be the basis of every episode, but the character stuff seemed to be pretty good. I just haven't had time to watch it regularly so I have only seen those episodes while my mom watched them.

And to be fair Supernatural is a tad more complicated than what you implied, as far as the backstories of the characters go.

I get that Tennants Dr is meant to be commical but he can be commical and disguise it with a snide remark and deadly look/grin that says don't mess.

A bit of both rolled into one. Dr who withdrawal symptoms i need more Who!
(Maybe start a D T drool thread....)

And its not fair that we have to wait until Christmas for a new episode :(

The best way to sum up the differences for me personally is that I have repeatedly watched all the episode of Series 1, but that I don't feel particularly motivated to purchase Series 2 yet. I rewatched 'School Reunion' in 10 minute increments at uTube, and we rented disc 6 from Netflix for the special features (David Tennant's diaries are delightful!), but we'll probably wait until next Christmas to get sets 2 & 3 together.

I've seen a few lists of Top Ten classic Doctor Who must-haves. Do you have a page of that, with the reasons why, posted around here somewhere?

Not exactly like that, but that would be fun, eh? Something to consider. I think I'd go with top 5 for the 2 new seasons. I'm not sure how many fans of the classic seasons there are here. There are a few of us though. There are a bunch of favorite ep comments scattered about concerning the 2 new seasons.

I've been taping them now that they are on BBC America. Since the DVDs are so expensive.
