HOLY CRAP.
That was an awesome season premiere. I think this season will be way better than last season, apparently my worries were all for nothing. This season looks like it will be darker.
Was it just me or did this episode feel...way different from the show we know? Maybe it was just because the whole thing took place in a hospital or something. I dunno.
I was really interested when the reaper said that if Dean didn't go with her than he would become what he hunts...so that's how the "angry spirits" are born, huh. Interesting...will that play into the mythology later?
Anyway, I liked the reaper chick. It wasn't like she was bad or anything. But the part where the demon posesses her...what the phuck? A spirit possessing a spirit?
Except for some of the scenes with Dean yelling in anger to people who can't hear him, I think the acting has improved as well. Especially from Jared, whose acting occasionally made me roll my eyes last year.
I saw John's death coming from a mile away, I suspected he'd die ever since last year. I was starting to doubt it but I knew for a fact it would happen after he talked with the demon. Even though I hate John I still felt a little sad at the end...over it now.
The previews for the next episode were not even mostly episode 2, most of them come from episode 4. Next episode is the clown one. YAY.

OK, prydain. Here are my immediate reactions while watching this episode:
Bring it, Kripke!
Demon's still in the truck driver. I figured Sam would be the first one to wake up.
My CW network keeps pixelating on me. I hate that.
I called it! I knew that the demon would leave the truck driver.
Um... why daylight now? How long were they in the car? Before getting treatment? With Dean bleeding to death?
Poor Dean.
I'm surprised Dean even knows about the car accident.
Imagine, coming into a room and finding yourself like that. That's gotta suck out loud.
Holy crap! Supernatural changed its titles! Whoa! I jumped at the fireball!
"Sammy." Awww....
Figues that Dean automatically gets concerned about John.
I'm kinda surprised that Dean will suggest that, considering the events in "Faith."
The CW keeps pixelating on me!
Something planted those words in Sam's head. *snicker*
Did I call that? Did I call that? Bobby's gonna take care of Metallicar!!!! I so called it!!!
I jumped at Dean suddenly appearing. And, knowing that John knows more than he said he did? I loved it!
"Dean is gonna be pissed!" Understatement! No! That's Dean's baby!
Don't ever give up on Metallicar! She will live again!
Awww... You know, having Jensen out of focus really worked for that shot.
I'm grinning like an idiot about Dean yelling at John like that. He needs to do it when he's awake.
This episode is rocking!
I've seen this scene, y'all! How sad is it that Dean still tries to break them up from fighting?
I laughed so hard at Dean saying that he Swayzed that mother!
Poor Dean. That makes me jump along with him.
Man, I'm tearing up right now. And, I know that he'll be fine.
Man... this episode is intense!
"If I can grab it, I can kill it." Yay, Dean!
Did Sam hear Dean?
I don't know why, but "I hate to bear bad news, but I think there were complications" made me laugh.
Dean listening to Yanni. Now, there will be an image that will haunt me for a long time.
Well, Sam felt Dean. Yay!
Yeah, John. You won't hunt the demon, but we all don't believe you, do we?
"That's crap." That's suspicious as well.
Yay! The ouiji board! I loved this scene when I saw it on-line. Hey, whatever works, Dean.
"I feel like I'm at a slumber party.... I'll be damned." Great. Now I have an image in my mind--Dean at a slumber party.
"Dean, is it after you?" "Yes." Creepy.
And, the reaper is here naturally.
Damn CW keeps pixelating on me! That is really gonna be an on-going complaint with it, I think.
"Sammy" Awww....
Jensen is really, really sexy when he's playing angry.
Anyone know Latin?
Oh, I'll let you know when TWoP has the recap up. Not sure why I thought of it now, but I did.
Yay! Demon! Of course, John is suicidally reckless anyways.
I'm grinning like an idiot again. And I knew this would happen!
What's with all the commercials? Smallville was also plagued by a lot of commercials as well.
You gave Dean the clue, Sammy. "We'll kill each other." Yeah, I think Dean's very aware of that.
"We were just starting to be brothers again." My heart broke at that. I just about cried.
Death isn't an end. It's just another stage of the journey. I wrote that in "Lament."
"I think I'll pass on the 72 virgins."
"You're very cute." Yeah.
Oh, man. Dean would totally become an angry spirit! I can see that happening. And, that's a frightening concept.
"If only your boys knew how much their Daddy loved them." It's sad that the demon has that much insight.
What's the truth? What's the truth? What's the truth? Seriously, what's the truth?
Man. If this is any indication of season 2, season 2 is gonna be intense!
Dean's fighting the good fight. Of course he'll go to Heaven.
Sad... I'm tearing up again.
Dean doesn't see the demon? Wow!!!
Whoa! Whoa! Whoa!
I'm so glad I'm taping this. I wanna see that again!
No. Not an angel. Which is so sad. Dean doesn't remember? That's sad too.
I'm seriously crying now. "It's OK, Dad." Oh, man. That gets me. At least John is doing some sort of apology. Dean really needs to hear that.
Man... Seriously. My eyes are tearing.
"Is that really you talking?" Again. I'm losing it.
Damn pixelation.
"Get discover in the Supernatural band contest"?
Sam discovering John--that was one awesome shot!
Oh, damn!!!!!
I see the amulet!
Dean's gonna go dark side. How freakin' awesome is that?
OK. Season 2 is gonna rock so hard!

What amulet though?
Yes, season 2 will rock. Hard.
And just so you know my MOMMA listens to Yanni. ;)

Next episode is the clown one. YAY.
Hmm well i'm either going to have to skip that one or wait until you guys tell me how much the clown is in it. I have a pretty big fear of clowns (laugh all you want but they are evil I tell you evil!).
Anyways back to this episode, not a bad start, it was kinda obvious what was going to happen to the dad when he was making a deal but it was his son's life or his and he loves his son.
Can't wait to see Dean's face when he finds out about the car (I hope they don't skip it). Loved the Ghost Whisperer and Ghost references, which we have now come to expect.
It started off on a good note and it can only get better.

Supernatural only got 3.8 million viewers. :(
I wonder how The CW feels about this. I mean, so far they've been doing pretty crappy anyway. But will they be relaxed about Supernatural since it has all this damn competition?

What is it up against?

CSI, Grey's Anatomy, and Deal or No Deal which are all big hits.
In the more saught after demographic Surpernatural beat the finale of Celebrity Duets on Fox.

That will have to count for something.
I'm hoping the ratings will be a shade better next week, because that premiere was gooood. Maybe it will start a buzz.

Do you think the premiere was superior to season one?
I do myself, for what that's worth. I'm a fan of the arc style, over stand-alones though, so maybe I'm not the best judge. The old WB didn't like arc-heavy stuff. They used to put pressure on Whedon and his people to avoid it.

Having cast my mind back to the first episode, i'm going to go with it being on par. But then again Supernatural is in my opinion the strongest premiere of a show. The whole storyline of the mother and the girlfriend caught me right away.
The premiere of the second season was a 'must see' because I had grown to love the show and the cliff hanger of the car crash had me hooked. The arc like N4H mentions above is why most people want to tune in, its a case of 'must see what happens.' But then again who are we to speak, we're not the network just a bunch of fans ;)

I liked the premiere too, but personally I thought the pilot was more...sort of accessible, classically spooky fun. The downside of arcs of course is a potentially diminishing (yet hopefully loyal) core audience.
I just gotta say, I'm starting to hate the CW's on screen promo graphics. The snakey movement of the green lines, the color scheme...I sometimes love retro, but this sorta feels like a cheap 70s downgrade from the WB's graphics.
And as long as I'm ranting, I hate all the network promotional junk that fills the screens during episodes, on all the Nets now! It seriously bugs.

I gotta agree goldenboy, in a way the pilot was better for a horror-themed show...but I thought the quality of the second season premiere showed even more promise for the second season than what we got with the first...
I usually don't mind on-screen graphics during episodes, when it doesn't dominate the screen, but The CW's crap really is super annoying.

So I watched the Season 2 premiere of Supernatural again, I couldn't help myself it was a good premiere episode. I cried at the end though when John made his decision. Talk about being selfless, that was a very selfless thing for John to do even though it was also very sad. I tell you Dean looked amazing in hospital clothes, even though he was wounded. Nothing like a hot wounded guy.
Obivously, you all can tell I got a crush on Jensen,no lie there.:)

Dean did look hot in his hospital clothes :)
I just wonder what John whispered to Dean. And if it wasn't what he knows about the 'kids with powers', then I'm worried about them not knowing, and annoyed with John for keeping the guys in the dark on that even when he's about to let himself die.

Oh I assumed it was about the kids :)

Yeah, I'm not sure I trust ol' Johnny *L* to let them in on that. but I'm hoping your assumption is right :)

So everyone thinks John sacrificed himself to save Dean...WRONG!!! The clue was dropped in the show. John is going to become a spirit to help Sam & Dean fight and at the same time try to get on the same level as the Demon. Call me nuts, crazy or loopy but that is what I got out of it.
Oh and I am sooo happy the car comes back, anyone hoping for a 'Christine' like epi when the car gets resurrected?
I also think John told Dean about Sams potential powers and that he needs to groom Sam into them with the help of the psychic friend from season 1.
And I do agree with everyone this show now has a different vibe to it and I frickn' love it!!!

Sam has powers but, I think I would like to see Dean have some powers as well. The show always seems to focus on Sam, I was happy that the Season 2 premeire focused on Dean. I hope its even this year . The show needs to be about both of them.
I do keep trying to figure out what John whispered into Dean's ear, I'm assuming had to do with maybe Sam and the other folks like him or maybe about what the Demon's up to?

Honestly I thought this episode wasn't that great! It was alright, I wouldn't watch it again any time soon, but it was fine. Definitely not as good as the season 1 premiere. And out of Veronica Mars, Grey's Anatomy, One Tree Hill and Supernatural, Supernatural was my least favourite Premiere so far!
I just didn't see anything really amazing in the episode, the only surprise in the episode was the women was a reaper, everything else I saw coming!
teentitan
10-03-2006, 06:53 PM
The Clue:
When the Reaper was talking to Dean about if spirits refuse to cross over after decades they become a little crazy. So I looked at that as John will not cross over and he will become a spirit but he will learn how to fight the demon on his level, the spirit world.
Vilandra
10-03-2006, 07:17 PM
I don't think that had special meaning other than to convince Dean to submit - it's not like that was a secret :)
Old Master

Thank you, Teentitan.
It does make sense, but I dunno. On the one hand it might not have meant anything, like Vil said. But still, with a show like this, one can't really discount things like that right offhand.
So, we'll just have to wait and see if Big John pulls an Obi-Wan on the boys.
teentitan
10-03-2006, 09:24 PM
Like I said call me crazy, loopy or nuts but when John does pull an Obi-Wan (wise words Old Master, this grasshopper shrivels before your greatness and wise words) does that mean I can do an "I told ya so"? lol
Another reason I believe this is because John willingly gave up the colt and we did see one demon posses another demon so that's why I think John wants to fight the demon on the same turf...we will all watch with anticipation

BEG - while I was watching I didn't think it was too great. I mean, nothing was really going on, it seemed, but looking back on it as a whole I just think it was REALLY well done. I want to watch it again soon, lol.

What an emotional way to start the series. I thought this episode was so sad, especially the ending.
I was really beginning to dislike their dad. I got the impression that he really cared more about hunting than his sons, but the ending proved other wise.
I never would have guessed that she was the Reaper, that was a nice twist :)
I wonder what their dad whispered to Dean at the end. I wonder if he was telling him about Sam or not?

I finally got around to seeing this...excellent season premiere. Anything that references Led Zep song titles in the episode title has got me hooked from the start and it didn't disappoint after that. I can't wait to see how the story progresses.

Great stuff! I just got part one of the dvd box set yesterday and i was very impressed with the opener, the Dad making a deal to save Dean was moving, and Dean falling part inside was in the next eppy was good stuff!
The reaper was rather amoral, neither good or evil and you kinda got her point, as she spoke with Dean, but it would of been nice if she were able to help him recover!
