Having been somewhat confused about the start date for this i'm pleased that its so soon. At least it will carry us through until the next Christmas episode!
Sadly it has been stated that there won't be any crossovers, shame as it would be good. The trailer looks good and I can't wait until we have our first full episode, I do hope they explain what happened to Jack after the end of Season 1 Dr Who.

Well and now we know what he was doing there... :)

Doing where?
Oh and one thing i've been wondering Eve Myles plays 'Gwen' in Torchwood and was 'Gwenyth' in the episode of Dr Who 'The Unquiet Dead'. I wonder if she is the same character and how they will explain the large time jump.

What Captain Jack was doing in London during the Blitz in the Empty Child. Why he was after the ambulance with the nanogenes in it.

Ah now I get what you mean.
I always assumed that he joined Torchwood after he was left behind by the Doctor and Rose, don't know why it was just what I had jumped to.

Well it might not be that. But that's what I thought it was. :)

You might be right though as they have yet to state when this is really taking place. Its just been said that its a 'spin off', when it airs do you want me to tell you or would you rather wait?

Well I assumed that they have some sort of method for moving through time like the Doctor.
I may try and see it myself ;)
Thanks for the trailer link. That looks soooo good.
There were a couple of things worth calling attention to at that link.
Why the start date is so mysterious.
The BBC Press Office today released a statement regarding Torchwood, and it's broadcast during "week 43" - October 21st till October 27th. The Press statement can be seen in full below. Incidentially, it doesn't yet confirm the 22nd October start date - but don't fret; a source tells me that the date is now confirmed - the BBC aren't saying anything because they're scared of competition from the likes of ITV.
The Torchwood characters.
Enigmatic Captain Jack Harkness is the ever-watchful leader of the Torchwood team. Gwen Cooper is initially an outsider, whose first, chance meeting with Torchwood at the scene of a brutal murder sparks within her a burning curiosity to get to the truth. She is intrigued by Torchwood and her life changes when she is catapulted into an unfamiliar and exciting world.
Second in command to Captain Jack is Suzie Costello, the hard-working hardware specialist who catalogues and strives to understand the alien devices the team comes across. Owen Harper is the arrogant, brilliant medic and Toshiko Sato specialises in all things computer, surveillance and technical. Ianto Jones, meanwhile, cleans up after the team and gets them everywhere on time.

I truely want to watch it, it looks great and when are they gonna show it on Terestrial..? what about us who haven't got freeview yet...?
Rose Tyler
10-08-2006, 01:19 PM
Hmmm I don't know if it will get shown on freeview, things get shown on BBC1 and then repeated on the other BBC channels, i've not seen it the other way round. A friend of mine works at the BBC i'll have a word in her ear and see if she can shed any light on things.
If you look on that site with the trailer you will see a picture of the bus poster advertising Torchwood, so if its made the posters then thats the date that the Beeb will show it on.
Just seen the trailer on full tv size after Robin Hood....oh I can't wait!

Oh good. Better stock up on disposable bibs then, so I can drool endlessly at Captain Jack. ;) He can whisk me off into space any time he likes! *sigh*

And he's much cuter in person...sadly i'm not his type :(
Here's a little blurb from Digital Spy.
Torchwood, Torchwood, Torchwood.
There, that's a few hundred thousand extra clicks from Google.
I'm fresh from watching the premiere of the new Doctor Who spinoff - oh, sorry, the "new series from Russell T Davies with an organic link to Doctor Who but isn't a spinoff" - and I'm pleased to report that it's fantastic. Definitely more adult, and in so being becomes more believable, more humorous and more cheesy. If scoop is what you're after, stick around.

In fact here's another one from the same source Buffy fans might be interested in.
Russell T Davies has revealed that the idea for new Doctor Who spin-off Torchwood came to him before the classic science-fiction drama was revived.
Instead, Davies admits in an interview with Radio Times that the new BBC3 show's origins lie in cult shows from across the Atlantic:
"I first had the idea for the series while I was working on Casanova three or four years ago, before Doctor Who was even mentioned," said Davies. "I'd been watching shows like Buffy and Angel, and I'd said to [Torchwood executive producer] Julie Gardner - 'why don't we make a series like that?'"
Addressing the subject of children wishing to view the adult-orientated series, Davies said that parents "have to be honest with them... kids are so savvy about television; they know what a post-watershed programme is."

I laughed during the previews (which I watched on YouTube). I doubt I'll be seeing it. But then again I might watch the first episode.

Are you a fan of Buffy and/or Angel?
Cause one of the 'Villain' types on that is something called a Vampire, whose modus operendi is to 'rape peoples neck' while in the form of some odd looking creature.
Vilandra agrees: :D pry only like Heroes :D
I see there is no accounting for taste then.:)

When did people start using the word 'rape' in a context like this? Perhap because of the ties to the word it doesn't sit easy, then again perhaps i'm just too sensitive.
Sorry Pry couldn't resist that dig :D
Good news for UK fans that don't have freeview, Torchwood will be repeated on BBC 2 on Wednesdays. Now bow down to me for providing you with this information :D Bow I tell you!
Someone has to get on the boards to post a review Sunday though, so I know how much effort I want to put into seeing it.

Try and stop us from posting!
I can't wait as I loved Capt'n Jack and looking foward to seeing Gwen again. The fact that RTD id involved gives me hope i'm sad there will be no crossovers but hey more Sci Fi on British tv thats a good thing, and we have Jack back :D

Hey, I like Heroes and I'm dieing to see Torchwood!!
I think the neck scene would have been so bad on any other type of show, but on Doctor Who (I know It's not the same show, and it will be very different then Doctor Who) that kinda almost Comedy death scene really work! - So I wouldn't judge it without seeing it in context of the episode!

Yes I am a fan of Buffy and Angel but a vampire is different from the funny-looking alien now isn't it?
Torchwood looks like it could be okay...but I hope they were going for a darkly comic death there.
And Vil, geez, I'm not obsessed with Heroes or anything I just happen to think it's the best new fall show. Or #2. Which isn't even saying that much.

You say you are a fan of Buffy and Angel(...fyi that was rhetorical as I was aware that you are a member over there...) but you think that Alien is disimilar to the Buffy Vampire.
