Summary:

While hunting a Djinn, a genie, Dean (Jensen Ackles) is attacked and transported to a world where his mother (guest star Samantha Smith) is alive, Sam (Jared Padalecki) is in law school and engaged to Jessica (guest star Adrianne Palicki), and Dean lives a very normal life with his girlfriend (guest star Michelle Borth).

However, after he starts seeing a strange girl (guest star Melanie Neige Scrofano) and learns all the people he has saved in the past have died, Dean must decide whether he wants to stay in this new safe life where everyone he loves is alive or if he should return to the hunt.

Raelle Tucker wrote the episode directed by creator/executive producer Eric Kripke.

This was a great episode. Good story, writing and acting (the banter and quips over the last two shows has really improved). The only thing that I was confused about is if it was a wish Dean had why is his dad dead? About the only reasoning I concluded was that it was the focal point for Dean to leave the dream world when he was standing at his fathers grave baring his soul so to speak. But with a little more creative thinking the writers should have had his dad alive and found another way for Dean to realise the job is worth the sacrifice of a normal life.

They just wrote the father as dead because JDM couldn't make it to film this episode.

OK, just watched it, and it was fantastic. Loved this episode, a perfect example of why Supernatural should be renewed for a third season. It was a very well written episode, good effects, good directing, I basically agree with everything TT said.

I read the story description above, and thought, "OK, that sounds dumb", but I watched it tonight, and you guys are right. This is one of the better eps.

Are you guessing that is why he was not in the epi or is it confirmed because the last thing I saw him in was the Grey's Anatomy sum up show about a month ago.

It was confirmed that he couldn't do it because of scheduling conflicts, but he could make it for the finale. I don't remember if he's in part one or two.

Missed this one first time around. It was good. Kinda Matrix-like. Was good to see their mom again. Not sure what a Djinn's doing in Illinois, but hey..
