According to SpoilerFix, Supernatural will be adding two new regulars. Both women. I sense that those adolescent Dean fangirls will be highly upset with this news.

Can I suggest someone?

ELIZA. DUSHKU. and/or Kristen Bell. :) And/or Elisabeth Harnois.

Amber Benson should come back regular as the vampire girl.

The only way two women characters will work if there is no hint of affection towards either female from the guys!!!!
And personally I would like to see two new faces. I know some of you would like to see some fan faves but I do not want to have discussions next year about comparisons of characters they played on other shows.
With all the demons released at the end of the season the 3rd year has big potential to be a kick-ass year.

According to SpoilerFix one of the women will be "a potential love interest". And come on, realistically these guys need some kind of romance other than one night stands. As long as the relationship didn't overtake the show and was just a C-story that wasn't addressed in every episode, I would be fine.

So it seems it will be Jo (Ellens daughter). This could be 'controled' not to take over the show because of the way Ellen is so protective of Jo. Plus Dean is just plain scared of her, lol.

Are you saying you think Jo is going to be one of the two new cast members? I don't think so - fan girls hated her with such a fiery passion that the writers completely changed her arc in season two, and that's why in the latter half she was hardly seen or referenced. And a casting call went out for two people, which they wouldn't have done if Jo was going to be one of the regulars....

Thanks Pry, was not privy to that bit of info. Then I hope they cast two 'new' faces then. If the writers want to do the slow burn of love between two of the characters I don't have a problem with it. It could add some humour/sarcasm/awkward moments. So I guess you figured out if it's going to be one of the guys I want it to be Dean. He is your A typical bumbling dude around women. Though I did not watch Gilmore Girls if they use Sam it's just a cheap way to get the teenage girls to tune in so give Dean the girl, besides he only has a year to live.

Edit:

N4H agrees: Ha! What if Alexis Bledell is the new love interest. :D

Dude I said I did not watch Gilmore Girls and you made me google this chick! Oh and NFW!!! This chick is to small!
I'd like to see women who are not 'big' but big enough that when they throw down I want some sense of belief, I'm talking 5'8" to 5'11" range around a buck thirty to buck fifty. Because face it we can't invest time to build female characters as delicate damsel's. They have to come established at kicking ass and good with the weapons but when you 'clean em' up' you get that damn reaction.

I'm not really sure about them casting "newcomers". Nearly all the guest women are relatively new to acting and they usually are quite mediocre. I would prefer one of them to be a familiar face. I'm going to be crossing my fingers that somehow they'll chose Eliza Dushku until they finally announce who got the parts.

Eliza is a good enough actress to handle the role of a hunter chick. As long as the writers don't make her too much like Faith, viewers would stop making comparisons after a while. Eliza is also a very attractive girl, who also looks tough. I could see her as a love interest for Dean, maybe not interested in him at first, but slowly getting there. It would be fun to see Dean fall in love with her and her not be interested at all for a while, because usually Dean seduces girls fairly easily (from what we've seen).

Anyways, I'm hoping we find out who these girls will be within the next two weeks or so.

Hmm...well...I don't want to make you google again for Lauren Graham. How about Sally Struthers? :D

I'm not saying I wouldn't mind Eliza but how do you write her character where viewers will not look at her as Faith?
So I'll ask...Do you think the viewers would allow a crossover of Faith from Buffyverse to Supernatural? I know it would be a big leap for the fans but could it be possible or should I say plausable? Or would the Slayer abilities be the stumbling block? Would the fans accept the removal of the Slayer abilities like the way they changed the perception of vampires? Or could the writers blend her Slayer abilities to weave with the obvious powers Sam is about to develop (strength, perception, persuassion etc) because he is the last one from the yellow eyed demons test?
I just think it would be too difficult to write Eliza in even if it is as another character because after the fans get tired of comparing they could just abandon the show. Even if she is probably the best single choice for the role. A long ramble here but hopefully you get what I'm trying to say???

Oh and N4H Sally Struthers...now you are making fun of my age!!! Be nice to your elders because you know how long it takes for a cane welt to go away, lol.

I guess I can see your point but I really don't think fans will be upset if her character resembles Faith. And it could bring in some more male fans.

They could write her as being more feminine than Faith, yet still tough, not as psychotic, or whatever. There are hundreds of tough female chicks in popular culture who all manage to be different than Faith so this would be no different.

Question: Where's all the Supernatural scoop you said you'd get for us? I need my fix!— Lisa

Ausiello: (Spoiler alert) Looks like Dean is going to have some trouble with the demon who stole his soul last season. A casting call has gone out for that very demon, and she just so happens to be in her midtwenties, gorgeous and seductive. I've got two words for you, Eric Kripke: Bianca. Lawson.

Could work, I guess. Hmm.

Just saw a pic of her and No F'n Way!!! You expect the fans to go from 2 seasons of seeing the YED as a big man character to a female who is barely bigger then a pixie????
Look two new female characters is enough. Cast the demon as a male if any more chicks end up on this series the next thing we know the Impala will be painted pink!!!

I know what you mean though, TT. It's almost like they're apologizing for having male heros. Have we come to that.

I think it's a big mistake, because the two male leads is a defining characteristic of the show. This is going to change the whole dynamic.

prydain

These two new characters will be recurring, they won't be in every episode, and the two girls won't be a team or anything. I think it's gonna work.

N4H agrees: A pixie? Hey man, that's Kendra. :)

I don't care if her looks are so stunning that even the sun doesn't shine until she wakes up! NO MORE FEMALE CHARACTERS, regular or recurring.
It's a show about two guys who hunt and kill demons! They don't sell Mary Kay or tupperware on the side they find a demon and kick it's ass!
If the networks are not happy with Medium and Ghost Whisperer it doesn't mean they can screw around with my show! Yes I may be having a little heavy on the testosterone rant but I bought a tv for my wife for two reasons:
1. I watch Football, Hockey, and Baseball
2. I watch Supernatural, 24, Prison Break because the theme's of the shows are heavy on testosterone not estrogen!

I never know how to argue with someone when I agree with them.

This you see...

I know what you mean though, TT. It's almost like they're apologizing for having male heros. Have we come to that.

was me agreeing with you TT. On the rep comment, this thing here - :) - is called a smilie. Generally it means the comment is just a joke (as in not to be taken seriously).

I don't know. I guess I could agree some more on the point adding female tough-guy characters just to show girls can be macho too is dumb, but I don't want you getting more pissed off at me.

teentitan

I know you were in agreement with me N4H, though the actual smilie icon did not show it was this :) (noticed that when I typed the : with the ) it automatically made the smilie icon for some reason on your comment rep it did not make the icon) same thing I guess? I just went off on a rant and randomly picked your comment because like I said adding more females to this show is getting crazy. It's a guy show and once the cast is female heavy then the "off the cuff" remarks get tamed.
I'm sorry if you thought I was mad at you but no I'm not. I have always liked all our disagreements here at AD. You and others have made comments that have made me look at things from a different angle and I was hoping to do the same if someone thinks there should be more women on the show. So if you have a reason/comment about why there should be more females on the show post it, don't hold back because of me.
I mainly made the comment because I have noticed a lot of guests that are on AD and maybe one of them is connected to the show. (you never know??). So if my rant keeps the show heavy on testosterone then yeah!

That's OK. The problem with my humor is I'm the only person who ever gets it.

And the problem with Supernatural selling out to make the show more "girl-friendly" is it's selling out, and selling out doesn't work. It's like on Angel when they added Connor to make the show more kid friendly - didn't work. Or on Buffy when they added Kennedy to appease the gay community for killing off Tara - didn't work. Or on this new one Bionic Woman where they're losing the one interesting, full bodied character (a deaf girl), to replace her with a more homogenized, Hollywood pretty girl. That won't work either

With the coveted 18 - 39 male market I don't understand why a show that is exactly targeting that market wants to add more women?
The tv #'s have been consistent for 2 years, better then those shows that were hyped to the heavens last year, so seeing as how one of the creators of the show said season 3 is the year he wanted to get to and all the demons released at the end of season 2 this has major potential to be like the Borne Ultimatium...all action for the guys and decent story for the girls without all the fluff and puff of extra female cast members.
Like I have said before and will say again tv execs need to take a ridilin pill the size of a softball and let the show do its own thing.

prydain

I still don't get your issue...sure this is a "guy show" but over half the viewing audience is female, first of all, and guys like to see women...and these aren't going to be weak girls so what's the effin' problem?

You need to read this:

Because the show up until this point has been a show about a couple of guys. Which is part of what I enjoy about it. I don't need ANOTHER show about chicks.

prydain
08-24-2007, 05:28 PM
The show isn't ABOUT the chicks, they're not love interests (unless fans like them). They're just going to show up now and then like Bobby, Jo, Ellen...the show's not undergoing some huge change, it's just adding new characters that the guys will run into now and then.

Thanks for the link Pry. Good read but I think you might be misunderstanding where I'm coming from in this discussion...
I want to see the show develop, I want more characters, I want to see old characters come back. Like Kripke said it will be kick ass.
BUT
What I don't want is characters that are going to be cast as nothing more then eye-candy. I want believable characters hunter or demons. He spelled it out so great let's get the season started.
This discussion started with an idea for a girl to be the YED. Well when I looked her up I sorta went off the deep end, I'll admit that, because she was small, petite and pretty.
For two seasons the YED has been jumping from man to man of decent size so I just cannot wrap my head around the YED all of a sudden connecting with his inner female and expecting me to accept it. Like Kripke said he reads the boards so I was expressing myself that do what you need to do but stay consistent with "established" characters in the show.
If they want to use this girl (mentioned in this thread) as a messenger like the blonde (her name escapes me) in season 1 was for the YED no problem...I'm used to that.
I have seen too many shows do strange things with the core of the show and then next thing you know it's canceled. Kripke seems to have not fallen into that trend he is "course-correcting" so to me great, love it, keep on your toes and let's get this war started!
Sorta long but hope I cleared up where I'm coming from.
