This is a perfect example of a guy who just doesn't know when to shut up! Dude here's a rope finish the job already because not one of your castmates came to your defence so just how credible is this?

NEW YORK (AP) - Isaiah Washington, fired this month from "Grey's Anatomy" following the firestorm he started with a homophobic invective, hit back at the network Thursday.

"They fired the wrong guy," the 43-year-old actor said in an interview with the Houston Chronicle. He blames former cast mate T.R. Knight for stoking the scandal that led him to lose his role in the ABC hit. Knight is the one who should have been let go, he told the newspaper.

"I have to clear my name," said Washington. "I'll start from the beginning. I'm telling everything. So here's the truth."

Washington, who said he is considering a lawsuit, accused Knight of exploiting the controversy in order to get a salary increase and to enhance his role.

Washington drew fire after using the anti-gay epithet backstage at the Golden Globe Awards in January while denying he'd used it previously against Knight, 34, during an on-set dustup with co-star Patrick Dempsey.

Knight, who announced soon after the initial fracas that he was gay, told talk-show host Ellen DeGeneres in January that Washington used the slur against him and that "everyone (on the set) heard" him do so.

"That's a lie," Washington told the Chronicle. "I used the word during a disagreement with Patrick. I apologized for that. We shook hands and went back to work."

Washington was criticized for his comments by gay-rights groups, as well as by fellow cast member Katherine Heigl. Expressing contrition, he said he was seeking therapy and filmed a public-service announcement in which he said "words have power" to hurt or heal.

"I was not fired for making homophobic slurs," Washington said. "I did everything I said I would do. ... I wanted everyone to know I was remorseful."

A spokeswoman for ABC did not immediately return a phone call Thursday by The Associated Press seeking comment.

"I'm not angry," Washington told the Chronicle. "I'm disappointed."

What an idiot! I get why he is trying to clear his name, but you think he would have dropped it after it was sorted, why would he bring it up again at the Golden Globes!! And I supose he has nothing to loose now, but he must be lieing, their not gonna fire an actor from a hugely popular show, because of a rumour!

Although I think it was a good thing for T.R. He seems allot more comfortable in interviews and stuff, or at least on the one on Ellen, Most of the others he is a nervous wreck! Maybe it gave him some confidence, also from seeing the guy in interviews, I really don't think he would do that just to get a pay rise!

You know if just one...just one of his castmates came to his defence then he could have a 'smidge' of dignity which would allow him to make this absurd statement. But no one stepped up! Only the creator of the show said anything and even then it was damage control.
I read this as from day one this guy has been an A-Hole on the set and the cast is happy to see him finally step on his own 'male appendage' for the last time and are happy to see him gone.
I saw him in an interview last summer on Oprah (don't ask why I was watching ok) and Ellen Pompea was on the show and she was nervous and it was obvious she did not want to be there. Washington was talking about how he could no longer play the thug blackman in movies etc and that he is a better person then people think he is. I found it interesting at first but after about 15 minutes I started to think "this is an act" because the more he spoke the more Pompea sunk into the couch to hide.

Personally, I think that people are more willing to fully believe that T.R. Knight was fully the victim here because it's the politically correct thing to do, siding with the gay guy. I personally think both of them probably had SOMETHING to do with it and that this thing did NOT have to go this far. I believe that Washington probably did not mean to cause this much harm and it's not his fault that ABC wouldn't let him do anything to fix it.

BTW, there is a gay activist who is trying to get Washington back on Grey's, so whoever this person is is obviously not in the mindset that Washington is a complete homophobic jerk.

Personally I didn't like him that much on the actual show so I don't really care his character is gone, but I feel sort of sorry for him.

I think Washington was just an all round 'jerk'. If Knight was not insulted by it (because he publicly stated he accepted Washingtons apology) then he would have came to Washington's defence whereas Heigle lost her frickn' mind over it! That's why I think the execs are using this an excuse to just let him fade away from the series. Which BTW was very tastefully done.
This show has one of the best casts with chemistry and I think Washington was on the verge of ripping it apart with the 'who's on my side' scenario. And yeah I agree with you Pry I'm glad he's gone his character at times got on my nerves. As for feeling sorry for him...not a schmick! Part of damage control is keeping your mouth shut and moving on. I think it is going to take a long, long time before he his on tv or a movie. He will be lucky to land an extra role in a tv commercial after this recent little rant.

I haven't watched any of this programme, so I can't comment on the merits of one actor over another, but I'm quite glad that Washington has got the push from the show. He's bleating about how he's been victimised, but what about Knight? How did he feel to hear somebody he probably thought was a friend say something as derogatory as that about him? On two separate occasions too, if reports are to be believed.

Washington is whining about how it all ought to be swept under the carpet, now that he's apologised, but I wonder quite how magnanamous he'd feel if the boot had been on the other foot, and Knight had called him a n****r? I doubt there would have been any amount of apology that would have swept that epithet under the carpet, eh?

Good riddance to bigotted rubbish, I say!

Christine needs a new boyfriend anyway. They'd gone as far as they could with Burke and Christine. They should make her gay. That would be funny.

I reserve judgement as I've not read exactly what he was supposed to have said.

This is interesting...

Former "Grey's Anatomy" star Isaiah Washington is reportedly talking with NBC about a possible deal there.

Washington was formally let go from the ABC series earlier this month and has been on a media blitz ever since, claiming his firing was politically motivated in the wake of his controversial comments during the show's third season.

To recap: Washington reportedly used the slur in relation to castmate T.R. Knight, who is gay, during an argument on set last October. Washington apologized and story more or less died -- until January, when Washington took the microphone backstage at the Golden Globe Awards and stated, "No, I did not call T.R. a faggot. Never happened."

That set off a huge storm of controversy, with other cast members leaping to Knight's defense and gay-rights groups demanding an apology. Washington did apologize, sought counseling and taped a PSA on the power of words to hurt. He continued on the show for the remainder of the season, but ABC chose not to pick up his contract option for the coming year.

The 43-year-old actor has claimed in recent days that it was Knight who leveraged his comments to get him off the show, supposedly in an effort to expand his own role. Neither Knight nor ABC have responded to the allegations.

As for NBC, The Hollywood Reporter says the network is in discussions with Washington about a possible deal, though the talks are in a holding pattern at the moment. It's not clear whether Washington would join an existing series or be cast on a new show.

So is the peacock network taking advantage of a hot topic to help the network move up in the network wars or is this going to be a big mistake???

WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS GUY????

LOS ANGELES (AP) - "Grey's Anatomy" star Isaiah Washington said racism was a factor in his firing from the hit ABC series after he twice used an anti-gay slur.

Washington, who initially used the epithet during an onset clash with a co-star, told Newsweek magazine that "someone heard the booming voice of a black man and got really scared and that was the beginning of the end for me."

He tried to make amends by expressing remorse and volunteering to enter a counselling program to understand how the confrontation got out of hand, he told Newsweek.

"My mistake was believing that I would get the support from my network and all of my cast-mates across the board. My mistake was believing I could correct a wrong with honesty and sincerity," he said in the interview posted online Thursday.

"My mistake was thinking black people get second chances. I was wrong on all fronts," he said.

His unwillingness to act like a submissive black at work was part of the problem, Washington said.

"Well, it didn't help me on the set that I was a black man who wasn't a mush-mouth Negro walking around with his head in his hands all the time. I didn't speak like I'd just left the plantation and that can be a problem for people sometime," he said.

"I had a person in human resources tell me after this thing played out that 'some people' were afraid of me around the studio. I asked her why, because I'm a 6-foot-1, black man with dark skin and who doesn't go around saying 'Yessah, massa sir' and 'No sir, massa' to everyone?

"It's nuts when your presence alone can just scare people, and that made me a prime candidate to take the heat in a dysfunctional family," he said.

ABC declined comment Thursday. In its one public statement regarding Washington, issued in January, the network said his actions were "unacceptable."

Washington, who used the slur against co-star T.R. Knight during a confrontation with Patrick Dempsey, repeated the word backstage at the Golden Globes in January in denying the first incident. A public apology to Knight and others followed.

Is he insane, I think Greys Anatomy is probably like one of the only shows on TV that can claim no Raceism! There is a huge diverse cast, and diverse writers, what an idiot!

Has anyone noticed that no one and I mean no one in the industry is coming to this guys defence or even commenting on it?
I mean when Michael Richards used the N word people were coming out of the woodwork saying one thing or another about it. Even people you haven't seen or heard from in years!
This guy is looking for sympathy from anyone now. Maybe someone should tell him sympathy is between shit and syphillis in the dictionary!

Well, he sure ain't gonna get a job with that big-ass chip on his shoulder! Sheesh! He should name that thing, then maybe he could bill himself as Washington & Whatever, The Two-Headed Slur Monster. Idiot.

So basically he's alienated Gay people, the left-wing, and non-blacks. What do you think the odds are he'll never work again?

I find all this attention that the media is giving him ridiculous. Who cares? And personally I don't think him saying "the F word" should have been given that much attention, either. It's just a freaking word. ABC should have just punished him and tried to keep it quiet or something, or something. I just don't get why people CARE.

He insulted someone, there was some media but people stopped careing. It was that he brought it all back up again, dug himself a hole, and then started looking for sympthey!!

Gollanth disagrees: Sorry, pry, but people like me care because when "that word" is used in the way he did, it's to make us feel like we're second-rate humans. Do you really think that's not worth caring about?

My point is that it's just a word. People shouldn't get offended by words. The use of a word should not get this much media attention.

Miffed67

It wasn't the word itself, it was his use of the word and what he intended by using it that offended everyone. You're right in the sense that words, by themselves, shouldn't hurt anyone....they're just words. But they do, because people say them with the intention of hurting someone's feelings, or making them angry, or inciting action, or for a million other reasons. There's power in words, even the ones that shouldn't have any.
