Funking heck

You know what, thats just, wow.
I'm REALLY happy about that. Torchwood/Dr Who now has 2 Buffyverse connections under its belt and JM thats kinda more exciting than ASH!!!!

Don't get me wrong, ASH is a brilliant catch for Dr Who BUT that doesn't mean he was approached for his Buffy/Genre connection - he was one of the recurrings on one of the BEEBs biggest sketch shows.
JM, thats an actual no point in hiding, nod to genre fans. With so many great actors in the UK, RTD has 'Spike' on.

I LOVE THIS SHOW!!!

If the idea irritates you that Davies is hiring an American actor from one of his favorite American shows (I assume to play an American, much as British Tony played a Brit on Buffy), you're going to be outright pissed off if you read this article from the British blog, The Guardian.

Sticking Spike into Torchwood (http://blogs.guardian.co.uk/tv/2007/06/breathing_life_into_torchwood.html)

Here's a couple of quotes.

Torchwood are borrowing everyone's favourite demon. Why don't they borrow some of Buffy's humour, plot and characterisation as well?

Maybe we should be hoping the writers plunder more, not less, from Whedon for its second outing?

If that is aimed at me, I feel you misunderstood.
It doesn't irritate me that JM is in Torchwood.
On the contrary its brilliant.
What I was trying to suggest was this use of James shows, at least to me, that RTD may be a fan of the Buffyverse.
ASH, though part of Whedon, isn't a clear indicator of a direct nod as he was in Little Britain, a BBC UK production however James Marsters, yes a great actor, definitely comes with the 'Spike' tag.
He is a great choice for a great show.

Like I said, I LOVE THIS SHOW!!!!!!!!!

Sorry. My mistake. I thought you were being irritated by James being hired when I read this.

With so many great actors in the UK, RTD has 'Spike' on.

No, I was actually suggesting that with so muh UK talent that could fill a role on the show, they go for a guy from the US that is known for Buffy.

I don't get it then. Are we saying it's a bad thing to hire actors from other countries, or just a thing.

It's not without precedent on the new Who. From Daleks in Manhattan Ryan Carnes (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1408453/) is from Pittsburgh Illinois. Eric Loren (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0520580/) is from Boston Massachussets. Davies is apparently a multiple offender. Even that damned John Barrowman has dual citizenship. Can we tolerate that?

Or are we saying it's a bad thing for producers to hire actors who's work they like from foreign shows, when local actors are available. If so we need to take the producers of Heroes to task for hiring Christopher Eccleston.

My point is I'm not sure why it matters if English actors are available.

Edit

Oh wait...I reread it, and reread it, and I think I finally get it. You're saying that because there are UK actors available, yet Davies goes for an American from one of his favorite American shows this proves the actor is being hired specifically because Davies is a fan of Buffy. Is that correct? Yeah that makes sense. Marsters would also be more expensive than the average local actor who could fill the role. So yeah they wanted him specifically.

No, i'm saying this feels like RTD actually sought out Marsters for the role.
I have often thought there be some liking of Buffy/Angel from RTD as there are some, i believe, references to the show BUT they aren't conclusive proof.
JM being used isn't conclusive BUT it really does have the feel of being picked because of an admiration...well I hope so anyway.

I hope that as the Dr Who/Torchwood franchises REALLY take off they use more Whedonverse talent.
Wouldn't it be brilliant if one or more of the behind the scenes guys joined the shows.

No, I got it finally. See the edit above.

Yeah Davies is a Buffy fan. He's said so. He was also talking during the break about using celebrity guest stars this season. (Although I think that was for Doctor Who). He was even joking about Britney Spears. You missed that, because you were on the islands mun. :)

Yeah, i've missed A LOT!!!

Plus with the move and the lack of free time, brain turned to a kind of mush recently...still yay - JM on Torchwood.
