So Jericho fans send tons of peanuts to CBS to save Jericho and CBS caves and gives the show a 7 story reprieve.
So to gain momentum and try to attract new fans from the now famous nuts campaign is rerunning Jericho all summer long. Great idea, fantastic plan an all around good idea...WRONG!!!
The Emmy for "Dumb as a Box of Rocks" goes to the CBS executive for deciding to air the new 7 episodes not in September but instead it will be a mid season airing!!! To quote Forrest Gump "stupid is as stupid does".

I don't see how this is stupid. CBS is perfectly justified in their reasoning - first of all, why boot a show they already scheduled for fall? Secondly, there is no guarantee that the publicity would bring enough viewers in to keep the show alive. CBS is also giving fans time to recruit new viewers and to advertise it themselves. And if those seven episodes do well, the show gets a longer third season.

It's not a horrible thing. Or a stupid thing. The cliffhanger will get a conclusion and there will be enough left for a continuation beyond those seven.

So Pry running a show all summer long to build momentum with fans and attract new fans that it's a good idea to air the 7 shows 4 months AFTER building this momentum?
This is not building momentum it's called running into a wall! This is a show that is in survival mode so wouldn't it make sense to air the 7 shows right after the summer run? If the idea works the CBS execs would know within 2 to 3 shows and this would give them time to order maybe 7 more shows with a minimal break before renewing the series for a 3rd season.
This is not a normal situation so to treat it like a typical show that comes back in mid-season is like I said stupid.
As for booting a show scheduled for the fall the perfect candidate is Moonlight. They are re-tooling the whole show so don't you think making this your mid-season show a better idea? It gives the writers/producers a little breathing room to think they might turn out a good product instead of a rushed concept.

Ghost Whisperer/Jericho? Not a very compatible combo, I'm sure. And seeing as how the show got picked up around the time most shows are already breaking stories for the middle of their full seasons, the Jericho crew would have been just as rushed.

Anyway, in between reruns, episodes on CBS.com, iTunes, and the upcoming DVDs, people can get caught up with the show if they're interested. And if their interested, they'll watch. I don't think there is going to be a huge difference between airing it in September (which I think would be IMPOSSIBLE anyway) as opposed to January or so.

And it could end up airing early. No one expects Viva Laughlin to make it far.

Anyway, why bash CBS when it's not necessary? Renewing Jericho was something they didn't have to do, despite the huge fan campaign. Lots of other shows have had huge campaigns. CBS is making an effort.

I guess I'm just hoping for this to work. You know the mentality of networks if something is successfull...monkey see, monkey do.
There was a few other series last year that got the axe which I would like to have seen been given more time like The Black Donnelly's, Day Break, Drive, Smith and Standoff.
It's just frustrating to see the networks cancel shows so quickly instead of allowing the fan base to build. That's why I'm curious about the numbers Standoff got. Fox canceled it early then ran the remaining shows over the last 6 or so weeks. Tonight was the finale and I have to admit it is a pretty decent show.
CBS was the network that got my rant today because believe me anyone of them could have been the target.

Wonder what the Nets gonna do long term with any new show that's arc heavy by design. Most newbies get crushed in the Fall. And the extended hiatus experiment - even with established arc shows - was a disaster obviously.

I guess series like Supernatural - following the model of Buffy/Angel, X-Files - do alright. A mix of arc and standalones and the standard December, March hiatuses (hiati?).

I'd still vote for Fall shows and Spring shows, and then the Summer time Reality BS. Follow the new Lost format of 16 eps or whatever it's gonna be - if it's a question of $$$. Maybe it's not a viable business model, but I like it.
