3.01 The Magnificent Seven
Oak Park, Illinois
A man, Walter Rosen, comes out to dump his garbage and notices his neighbor’s car. He shrugs and puts his garbage in the cans… which start to vibrate. The lights flicker and a black cloud forms overhead. One black streamer comes down from the car and enters his mouth. He then gets to his feet, his eyes solid black, and watches as the other streamers spread throughout the city.
One Week Later
Sam is reading up on demon rituals out in the Impala, while Dean is in a house getting lucky. Bobby calls Sam and warns he won’t find an answer to Dean’s problem in a book. He tells Sam to pack it up and gets Dean out of his date with twins. They head to Lincoln, Nebraska where strange insect activity has been reported. As they drive Dean wonders why they haven’t found any activity from the escaped souls. When they arrive in Lincoln they meet up with Bobby and check out a house. They find the rotting corpses of the family watching TV. Dean goes outside and is attacked by Isaac and Tamara, a married couple who are demon hunters. Dean checks with the coroner later and determines the family starved to death despite the fact there was plenty of food in the house. Isaac doesn’t want to work with them, since they released the demons. The couple leaves and Dean, Sam, and Bobby hole up, unaware that a blonde woman is outside watching them.
Walter walks into a store and touches a woman, suggesting she check out a pair of shoes another woman has. The first woman goes after the shoes… and kills to get them.
The guys check out the crime scene while Bobby checks the “killer” and determines she wasn’t demon-possessed. Dean directs them to the security camera and catch Walter on tape. They leave, and split up as Sam notices the mysterious blonde woman is still following them.
Bobby and Dean stake out the bar where they located Walter. Sam shows up to report that Walter disappeared when the gate was opened. They spot Walter going in… with Isaac and Tamara following him. In the bar, Walter notices the fact they’re carrying holy water and goes into the restroom. Isaac follows him in but a demon attacks him and it turns out everyone else in the bar is one of the new demons as well. The guys try to burst in through the locked door, while the demons somehow force Isaac to drink drain cleaner as Tamara looks on. Isaac dies while the guys bust down the door with Bobby's car and uses holy water to keep the demons at bay. When Dean runs out of water he tosses Walter into the trunk and they drive away.
Back at the house, they hold Walter in a Devil’s Trap while Tamara insists on going back to the bar. Bobby figures out there are seven of them, and they’re up against the Seven Deadly Sins. All of the deaths are related to one of the sins: Envy, Sloth, and Gluttony. They try and interrogate Walter, Envy, but he taunts them with the fact they have plenty of sins of their own. He warns the other Sins will be coming from him, but they let Tamara dispose of Envy. Dean offers to delay the Sins on his own but Sam refuses to hear of it. Tamara finishes sending the Sin back to Hell… and she’s unconcerned that Walter died as well.
The guys barricade the house and seal all the doors with salt, then wait for the Sins to arrive. An agonized Isaac arrives outside and yells for Tamara, saying he managed to escape. They figure it’s a demon possessing his corpse, but “Isaac” torments Tamara over how she let the demons kill their daughter. Enraged, she goes outside, breaking the salt line, and stabs the demon through the chest. The other Sins burst in and one, Gluttony, comes after Bobby, who lures it into a Devil's Trap then banishes it. Dean squares off against Lust, who comes on to him and he kisses her. Sam lures the others beneath another Demon Trap but the main one, Pride, destroys the ceiling it’s painted on. Pride is unimpressed with Sam’s reputation and warns he no longer has the protection of the Yellow-Eyed Demon.
Dean distracts Lust long enough to shove her into a tub filled with holy water, while Pride starts to strangle Sam. The mysterious blonde woman comes in, disposes of one demon, and draws the other two off of Sam, killing them with a mystic knife. She then takes off before Sam can get her name.
The next morning they salt and burn the bodies of the humans who didn’t survive the exorcism, while Tamara disposes of Isaac’s body. Bobby isn’t aware of a blade that can kill a demon, while Sam wonders what else they might have let out. Tamara and Bobby head out and Sam suggests they head to Louisiana to find a voodoo priestess to help Dean with his deal. Dean doesn’t believe anyone can get him out of the deal and explains that if he gets out of the deal, Sam dies. Sam thinks his brother is a hypocrite, but Dean says he actually feels good for the first time in a long time, so they should go out and raise a little hell.
3.02 The Kids Are Alright
Cicero, Indiana
A woman comes outside as her ex-husband and daughter arrive. The girl, Katie, admits she was scared of going to her father’s place and says there are monsters there. The ex-husband goes home and is puttering in his workshop when a table saw starts up on its own. He goes over and shuts it off, but as he leaves it starts up again. When he checks it out, someone shoves him onto it, killing him.
Sam is talking to Bobby over the phone about demon banishment spells when Dean comes over with news on the death in Cicero. Dean admits he’s also interested in Lisa Braedon, a girl he met eight years ago. Sam relents and drops him off at Lisa’s. She says it’s a bad time and they’re having a birthday party… for her eight-year-old son Ben. Dean soon realizes that Ben is interested in food, chicks, and cars, and seems strangely familiar. Meanwhile, Lisa talks to CCC about Katie, and CCC thinks something is wrong with her daughter: that it isn’t really her daughter. CCC leaves and Dean asks Lisa if Ben is her son. She hastily denies it, but admits there have been a series of strange incidents in the neighborhood.
Meanwhile, Sam has set up show in a local diner, when the mysterious blonde who helped him with the Seven Sin demons seats herself down across from him. She explains she knows all about Sam’s “special” background and his mom. Sam doesn’t know about what happens to his mother’s friends, however, and the woman suggests he look into it then talk to her. Dean calls to let him know something is up and there’s been at least four more “accidents” in Lisa’s gated community.
Katie goes to her mom for comfort but when she hugs her mom, her reflection is briefly twisted in the mirror. Sam comes to talk to another widow and discovers her daughter was present at the scene when the father died. He also notes a mark on the widow’s neck. Katie’s mom makes breakfast for her daughter while rubbing her neck. She checks in the mirror and sees a similar mark, then Katie knocks at the door and starts pounding at it, demanding to be let in. The doorbell rings and a realtor comes to visit. Katie’s mother quickly gets rid of her and Katie demands ice cream.
Dean spots Ben in the street and re-introduces himself, and Ben reveals a bully stole his game. Dean convinces Ben to go after it and the boy knees him in the groin on Dean’s advice. Lisa is not amused and tells Dean he has no business there.
Katie’s mom takes Katie to get ice cream, but pulls over at a lake then lets the car go into the lake. Katie looks back quietly as the car goes underwater. Her mother goes home, crying, only to find a soaked Katie waiting for her, acting as if nothing has happened.
Dean checks in with Sam, who has determined that the kids may be Changelings, demons who steal children then mimic them. They then drain cerebral fluid through their neck and feed on them, and the only way to kill them is fire. The kids are stored underground, so there’s still a chance. Dean goes to check on Ben first, but he tells Dean to go away and Lisa agrees. Dean suspects something is up and finds a red substance on the window sills indicating the changeling broke in and took Ben. Dean takes Sam to a house under construction where red dirt has been excavated: the red dirt is what’s on the window sills. Dean and Sam go through the house and Dean finds the kids in cages. The realtor agent confronts Sam, who spots her demonic form in a reflection. Sam drives her off with fire, while “Ben” asks Lisa to play with him. However, she spots his demonic reflection in the end table and realizes something is up.
Dean gets Ben out of the cage and they free the others. Sam comes down to free the rest, including the realtor. The demonic realtor arrives, while “Ben” comes after Lisa. She runs outside for the car only to find the other changeling children waiting for her. She runs back inside. Meanwhile, the changeling Katie tries to get at her mother.
The realtor knocks down Sam and Dean while Ben gets the kids out. Dean holds the realtor off long enough for Sam to destroy it with fire, which destroys the other ones.
Dean reunites Ben with Lisa then tries to explain about his job. She also explains that she tested Ben and made sure Dean wasn’t the father. Dean admits he’s been thinking about what he’s left behind when he’s gone. Dean says he’s proud of Ben and Lisa asks him to stay, but Dean says he has work to do and takes off.
Meanwhile, Sam checks on the deaths of his mother’s friends and determines everyone who ever knew her has died. He goes to the blonde and demand answers and she reveals that she’s a demon but is there to help. She says she doesn’t know what’s going on but it ties in to Sam and says she can possibly save Dean.
Episode 3.03 Bad Day at Black Rock
Gordon is talking to a man, Kubrick, inside a prison. He is telling Kubrick about the gate to Hell and ends with say Sam Winchester must die.
Sam and Dean are driving late at night. Sam evidently told Dean about Ruby and Dean thinks she is bad news. While talking, the boys get a phone call... on their dad's old cell phone. A man tells Sam that an old storage facility John rented was broken into just outside of Buffalo. They head to it and find old objects like Sam's soccer trophy and Dean's first sawed-off gun, along with bombs and weapons. In another room there is a shelf full of cursed boxes and one of them is missing.
Later, after some debate, the two men who initially stole the box decide to open it and inside is a rabbit's foot. One guy was shot, and he touches the foot. Immediately a former Army medic comes in and offers to help. The thugs play some poker and discover the rabbit's foot may actually be lucky.
Sam and Dean break into the apartment. They try to get the foot back, but after a luck-filled fight the boys are beaten. But then Sam picks up the foot, and the tables turn. With the foot and the prospect of luck, Dean buys some lottery tickets and quickly wins $1,200.
The thief who first touched the foot goes to wash up after waking up. He turns around, trips on a bottle, and falls on a meat stake, which goes through his head.
Sam calls Bobby and tells him about the foot. Bobby says that when you touch the foot you get great luck, but if you lose it then you are dead within a week. Bobby goes to find a way to help. Dean is looking at more lottery tickets with total winnings at $15,000. When they go to eat they get free food for a year. A waitress hits on Sam and he gets interested, but then he spills his coffee and jumps out of the booth, knocking over a waiter.
Outside of the restaurant, the waitress pulls off a wig revealing the brunette woman who has stolen the rabbit's foot from Sam.
Kubrick and his friend get hungry. They find the picture of Sam and Dean winning the free food on the restaurant website.
Dean and Sam later return to the thieves' apartment and interrogate Grossman about his employer. Sam trips on something and falls behind a sofa, while Dean explains the curse and how he's partly responsible. Dean figures Grossman isn't a killer and the man helps them out.
Bobby calls again and says he has found a cure. He also says he knows the woman, Bela Talbot. While Dean talks with Bobby, Sam steps in a wad of gum. He attempts to wipe it off on a storm grate at which point his shoe falls in it. Dean decides that Sam could get them in trouble, so he leaves him behind at a motel, sitting on a chair.
In Queens, Bela is talking to a client who wants to buy the foot for $1.5 million. Dean breaks into her place and, with guns pointed at each other, they negotiate the foot. Bela reveals she knows about demons and the supernatural. In the end, Dean steals the foot back and leaves with a stroke of good luck, after getting shot at by Bela.
Back at the hotel, Sam is still sitting in the chair when the heater in the room catches fire. He attempts to put it out, which results in his coat catching on fire. He knocks himself out trying to put it out. Kubrick and Creedy witness what happened and tie Sam up in the hotel room. But instead of killing him they beat him a little and try to get information out of him.
When Sam is going to get shot, Dean shows up just in time. He aims a pen at Kubrick's gun, and it goes into the muzzle. Then Kubrick's friend runs at Dean and hits a wall. Dean throws a remote control at Kubrick's head and also knocks him out. Dean stands there pleased with his luck.
Dean and Sam prepare to burn the foot in a graveyard, when Bela shows up demanding the foot back. Dean claims that she won't shoot anybody but is proved wrong when she shoots Sam. She says she will kill Sam if she doesn't get the foot back. With a great throw, Dean tosses the foot at Bela who catches it in her bare hands. With this turn in luck Bela reluctantly agrees to get rid of the foot by burning it. After she drops it she heads off.
Dean and Sam walk back to the car. Dean gets excited when he goes to check his pockets for the lottery tickets he had bought and was disappointed when he found them gone. We see Bela smiling as she holds the winning tickets in her hand.
Back at the prison with Gordon and Kubrick, Kubrick says he is fully on board with the mission of killing Sam Winchester. Gordon tells Kubrick that he has to get out of prison then they will carry out God's will.
