From Dark Horizons (http://darkhorizons.com):

Remake of the classic 1976 thriller. A distinguished couple discover their son Damien bears "the mark of the beast". At first the father dismisses the talk as superstition, but when people around him start dying off in gruesome accidents, he realises it may be up to him to save us all.

Thoughts?

I'm sure fans of the original will be wary of this film, but I'm personally excited for it. I think it's extremely clever - albeit corny - that the release date is 6-6-06. Liev Schreiber seems like he could play the part of the main guy pretty well...although not nearly as well as Gregory Peck.

Is anyone planning on seeing this?

Sounds like a renter to me unless the trailer looks REALLY fantastic. I mean, this isn't really a horror film I'd touch...

When the hell did the well of the imagination suddenly run dry? Has it really gotten so bad out there that writers are having to remake every friggin' horror classic in sight because of complete lack of an original idea? I mean come ON...now we have this "Omen" bastardization coming up. I'm sorry, but you can't (expletive deleted) with a classic like that. No way at all you can recreate the atmosphere and the feeling of uneasiness that the original "The Omen" fostered. I won't be watching this one....I leave that up to you younger folks. I'm done. Lol.

I'll go watch "Hostel" instead. I hear it's delightfully sick...and it's NOT a remake. :p

There pretty much is no such thing as an original idea lol

This is true - nearly every idea has been turned into a story of some kind. The only thing that keeps them different is the minor details.

And personally, I enjoy remakes, even when the remake isn't that great. If they're decent enough they're fun to watch. Especially when they have better effects. :) (Yeah that may be shallow, but oh well. Sue me.)

I haven't seen the original, so I might watch this, although I think the chances are rather slim.

Well guys, the trailer is in. I saw it during An American Haunting.

Looks like it's just "The Omen" now, not "The Omen 666". Yay.

Anyway, I personally think the movie looks cool. I'll be there opening night, I hope.

I can't believe they're remaking the Omen...

And this is why the studios are doing remakes. Movies from 30 years ago have actors that younger, newer moviegoers do not recognize. So instead of trying to push "dad & mom's" actors on them studios do the remake. In 30 years the cycle will start again.
I've noticed over the last 5 or so years a good movie with suspense and superb writing happens maybe once or twice a year. It is hard for writers to try to write a movie that the older generation will not figure out before the middle of the movie. We have seen it all. The only movie that truly surprised me was the Sixth Sense. Inside Man almost did it but half way thru the movie I whispered to my wife what the plot was about and she couldn't believe I was right at the end of the movie.

Obviously remakes have been around since the beginning of film. But it almost seems like Hollywood is actually dependent on them now. That seems like a new phenomenon, just the pure percentage of remakes. Not sure...

Just got back from seeing it...it's a good and entertaining movie for what it is. Not scary, I jumped for maybe two scenes, which is more than some movies. I wish they had deviated more from the original though, and changed the story up some, and explained things better...they could have made it better.

And the little Damien kid had what...four lines maybe? He was an ugly little effer.
