View Full Version : Disussion of 4.11 "Turn Left" - Aired 06/21/08 (BBC1-UK)
The Doctor steps aside as Catherine Tate's Donna takes centre stage, for an episode that rips apart her entire world.
If Russell T Davies is prowling the Internet tonight, as these words are being written, then surely he’s feeling some sort of vindication. Frequently championed for his story arcs, and yet chastised for his individual episodes, for the second week running he’s shown his writing team, and the many assorted critics he’s faced, just how it should be done.
Let’s make no bones about this: Turn Left was really, really good.

Great chemistry between Tate and Piper.
Go Wilf. I like that old codger.
Hands up. Who thought the 2 words we're going to be Rose Tyler. "Bad Wolf" though, that's inspired.
Oh, and next week, who's that kid with Sarah Jane? Is he on the Sarah Jane show? And the Rhinos are coming back. Never expected to see them again.

Brilliant! Just pure bloody brilliant! I'm so looking forward to the last two eps :)
I nearly jumped out of my seat when it turned out to be Bad Wolf...I really didn't expect it. Like you I thought it would be a name, as they'd already heavily pushed the name thing in the library story.
Did I mention that I'm really looking forward to Companion Fest 2008...not to mention the remaining Torchwood staff and, yup, the kid was from SJA - he's Luke, Sarah Jane's adopted alien/clone son.
I've just found these new trailers on the official site (sorry but they're UK only but I bet they will be on YouTube by now ;))

I also just noticed something from the 'next time on' trailer...Who was the older woman screaming something along the lines of "Doctor, come back!"?
I don't know, but she was with those Rhino guys. What's the story on them again? Aren't they mercenaries?

From Wiki, to save my poorly typing finger...seriously dude, I've got a poorly finger :(
Judoon
The Judoon are a race of mercenary police featured in the episode "Smith and Jones" (2007). They are basically humanoid in form, have heads that look like that of a rhino, and wear black, bulky armour with heavy boots.
They serve the role of galactic police. Brutal in their application of the law, they are highly logical in their battle tactics. However they are not very intelligent and as a result can be tricked by a more intelligent individual. They have no jurisdiction on Earth and no authority to deal with human crime, so when a fugitive alien hid out in an Earth hospital they transported the building to the moon. The Judoon carry energy weapons which can easily incinerate humans. In the hospital the Squad Leader is the only one seen to remove his helmet.
During the episode the Doctor demonstrates considerable knowledge of their intelligence and methods and says that, whilst their behaviour is (on the surface) that of a military police force, they are little more than "interplanetary thugs". Also, according to The Doctor, the Judoon have a "great big lung reserve" meaning either that their lungs are large or that they have huge secondary lungs for storing air.
The Judoon return in The Stolen Earth, as its preview in the previous episode shows. It is believed that they will try and help The Doctor defeat Davros and The Daleks because they have broken many intergalactic laws.
I've just noticed a spoiler in there, which could be well cool if true ;)
Come to think of it, don't those Judoons kind of remind you of the big dumb cops, or soldiers from Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy?
Edit
Hey wait a minute now...something slipped right past me....
"The remaining Torchwood".
Where's Tosh? Did I miss an episode?

Bloody Brilliant episode.
More and more Donna is making me wish Catherine had signed on for 2, 3 or 10 years.
The episode was absolutely amazing - though I wanted to slap Donna's mother.
RTD definitely has some mother issues.
I love the trailer for next week and I got this from the BEEB.
UK fans only I am afraid

This may only work for UK viewers...but you never know...
If you complete the jigsaw puzzle on this week's episode guide (click on 'features' to find it) - BBC - Doctor Who - Episodes - Series Four (http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/s4/episodes/#ignore) - you'll be rewarded with a script extract in which The Doctor tells Donna that they're off to the Shadow Proclamation...

Having that thing on my back would have totally freaked me out!! I really would not have wanted to see that!!
It was a really good episode. I thought it was a little bit scary how changing one small choice (like turing right instead of left) could have such a dramatic effect on things. I felt a little sorry for Donna when she realised she wasn't going to make it and she made her sacrifice. It all turned out ok though!
