Anyone else here into Football? (The American version) The playoffs are just ahead, with the Super Bowl to follow. The final week of the regular season has just finished.

So, anyone have any favorites, teams they'd like to see go all the way? Favorite teams, who made it or not?

I guess it would seem the Colts have be due a Super Bowl Run... but there's some other really good teams fighting it out this season.

My favorite teams of course didn't make the playoffs... it's a sad, sad time to be a 49ers fan. *hangs head recalling better days*

*LOL* Anyway, just thought I'd start a lighter topic... cause, well, most of the other topics in this forum right now are well, making me a bit angry. And I don't like being angry... I get enough of that from the nightly news... which is why I tend to avoid the nightly news...

Yeah, I agree, the Colts are gonna make it to the Superbowl. Not exactly who I want to go. but they probably are. Personally I want the Steelers to go.

Which teams are in the play-offs this season? I haven't been really paying much attention to Gridiron football (too much proper football going on...OK, I mean soccer ;)) but I did notice the Seahawks doing quite well (the team I followed when I watched it regularly)

I say that it will be Colts vs Seahawks on Feb 5 in Detroit! But I really wish it would be Da' Bears!
And as for the Niner's wellll look at the bright side Cincinnati got better after a decade of changing the definition of the term "sucks" every year, lol.

The real football cup that is real important this year is the World Cup!! :p Right Vilandra? ;)

The only thing I really like about football is Super Bowl parties...

Well it is very important but the Super Bowl is also very important, especially when the Steelers get there.

The NY Giants are in, so that makes me happy.

Ya know, this whole American Football versus Footie/aka Soccer is highly amusing to me. There was this one time I was talking to a friend from Scotland and she referred to American Football as "Rugby for pussies". :p:p What up with that? Lol. Both sports have their merits.

Vilandra

They all say that. But I guarantee they've never seen a pro football player in real life or they wouldn't say that lol. I can't tell you how many arguments I've had with UK & Irish friends about this. I recall one specific occasion where I told an Irish PE teacher & hurling, gaelic football, and soccer coach that if he gave me a hurling stick - even though I've never played before - that I could kick his ass in hurling. lol.

What the hell is Gaelic football? lol.

I should so know these things...since my family's from Ireland and all... :(

Hmmm, yeah....I don't think a team of non-uniformed, naturally 300+ pound American ball players in a fair Rugby match with the UK's finest would be much of a contest. Lol. But hey, they're allowed their opinion. :p

By the way, what's Hurling?

By the way, what's Hurling?

According to http://www.wikipedia.com:

Hurling is an outdoor team sport of Celtic origin, played with sticks and a ball. The game, played primarily in Ireland, is arguably the world's fastest field team sport in terms of gameplay (however the ball travels faster in other field games such as hockey). It resembles the games of shinty that is played primarily in Scotland and bandy that was played formerly in England and Wales. Hurling played by women is also known as camogie. Hurling is Ireland's native sport.

I'm looking up Vilandra's gaelic football right now...lol.:heh_heh:

I can see where they're coming from when they call American Footbal "rugby-for-pussies"... They wear all this armour. What's worse: last year, I tried to watch that final match of the season, which they aired here for a change... but it was just too boring... They would like run for five minutes and then take a 15 minute break... what's up with that?!?

the few, the proud. thats what we are.....well...proud may be a bit of a stretch...but still

oh wait, while we're on the (off)topic of bashing detroit....watch any sixers games lately? any pistons games? who's sucky now?

Now, Now boys we are talking football...besides Pats or Steelers have to go through the RCA Dome. Now where is that place again? Oh yeah Indianapolis!
About the Lions why does Mariuchi get his walking papers and Millen gets another free pass? I loved that orderly protest a few weeks back. Whoever thought that one up should get great props! That was the smartest thing I have seen in years it sure was better then the paper sacks they wore at Saints (Aint's) games.

Colts are DONE. They are in a downward spiral.

For Americans (though the Irish would never agree to this comparison), hurling is sort of like lacrosse but there's no net on the end of the stick.

Gaelic football is (oversimplifying) a cross between rugby and soccer.

I wouldn't count the Colts out yet. That "downward spiral" you're talking about fails to mention the fact that after they lost to San Diego they didn't have anything left to play for, having sealed up their division and home field advantage. They had benchwarmers playing some of those finals games and were missing Dungy for a couple of them because his kid killed himself.

Personally, I think that if they get past the Redskins this weekend Seattle is going to take it. But maybe that's just because I'm a Seahawks fan. ;)

Wesley

ahahahahahahahahahahaha. The Steelers won. That is amazing. We beat the colts. i love it.

Even better is that the Pats lost last night. this is a great weekend.

yeah well. you're lucky. the ONLY reason they lost is cuz i wasnt able to watch the game (which is the ONLY reason why the steelers did win)

but i have to confess...that im going Steelers the rest of the way....only for you Wes

Jerome is coming home baby! :D

Jerome is coming home baby! :D

You mean the Jerome who did not fumble a ball all year...until yesterday? You mean the Jerome who almost ended his career making a rookie mistake by not tucking the ball into his stomach? You mean the Jerome who is unfortunately going to be another Hall of Fame running back without a Superbowl ring? If that's the Jerome your talking about then I guess his family moved to Denver...Bronco's baby!!

Vilandra
01-16-2006, 05:14 PM
Yes because I'm not going to fault a class act like Bettis for making one mistake all season.

Wesley
01-17-2006, 05:46 PM
lmao, i just found this on the internet. Its the steelers prayer.
Our father,

who art in Pittsburgh,

football be thy Game.

Thy Kingdome come,

4 Super Bowls won,

on earth as it is in Heinz Field.

Give us this day a playoff victory,

and forgive us our penalties,

as we defeat those who play against us,

But lead us into a victory, and deliver us to Detroit.

A-Ben

Nope. ;)

I said don't count them out. Never said they'd win, though. :P

My Seahawks won even with Shaun Alexander on the bench the majority of the game. The next team to play them better pray he's not off the bench, because if he is the Super Bowl is as good as theirs. :D

HERE WE GO STEELERS, HERE WE GO. PITTSBURGH IS GOING TO THE SUPERBOWL!!!!!!!!

yes, finally. Being a Pittsburgher, this is awesom. Jerome gets his Superbowl. And the best thing about it, is that he gets it in his hometown.

HERE WE GO STEELERS, HERE WE GO. PITTSBURGH IS GOING TO THE SUPERBOWL!!!!!!!!

Cowher Powher will get the job done, cause Pittsburgh's gonna get that one for tha thumb!

* Vil sits in her retro #26 Steelers jersey, a Rod Woodson purchased the last season the Steelers went to the Superbowl and currently sported by DeShea Townsend... *

Do you believe in miracles?!

OMG how crap was that Seahawks-Panthers game? Delhomme threw like a girl...

Speaking as someone who has followed the Seahawks for quite a few years now (albeit from afar), I'd say it was a pretty good game :). I might actually have to stay up 'til the early hours to watch the Superbowl now...or possibly tape the highlights show ;)

Vilandra
01-23-2006, 05:30 PM
I'm sorry but I thought that game was the most boring one I've ever watched. In the third quarter the Panthers should have just started taking a knee on every snap...

Mat MacManus
01-23-2006, 06:28 PM
It *was* really boring. I actually stopped watching it during the third quarter because I knew it was already won. I haven't seen an entire team lay down and quit like that in a long, long time.

teentitan
01-23-2006, 06:42 PM
Well the Broncos flinched and made the first mistake (and more) and that is all Cowher needs. Pittsburgh played a tough game and Jerome looks like a rookie again.
The Seahawks/Panthers game was the same. Panthers made the first mistake and Holmgren like Cowher made the mistakes count. I did not find the game boring I thought it was like watching a young Brett Favre playing.
I hope the Superbowl game is good. We have been spoiled with the last couple being good.
Here's hoping that Jerome caps off a brilliant career with a ring!!
