Dean (Jensen Ackles) and Sam (Jared Padalecki) investigate several murders at Oktoberfest. The first victim was found with bite marks on her neck, much like a vampire would leave, while the second victim has wounds that look like a werewolf attack.

After a mummy rises from his crypt, Dean determines that a shape-shifter demon is terrorizing the town as iconic monsters from the old Hollywood movies.

Robert Singer directed the episode written by Ben Edlund.

Knew this had to be a Ben Edlund ep. Pretty good. I'm a sucker for any classic monster movie. The music and atmosphere was good. The X-Files crack was fun. And Octoberfest is always a good thing...

This episode had Halloween episode written all over it! So I am fully expecting not just my socks knocked off but my eyes to pop for the Halloween episode!!!
This one was/is an instant classic for the series. This one was better then Hollywood Babylon from season 2 and I laughed alot watching that one.
Right from the starting credits. Loved it when they drove past the Pensylvania sign that when the lightning bolt flashed it switched to Transylvania. And shooting in B&W great idea and loved how Dean said this old fashioned monster hunt was a case as simple as black and white. But when Dean said he was 'rehymened' I damn near choked to death. The liederhosen was f'n genius! I knew a smart ass comment was coming from Sam but 'hey Hansel' was not what I thought he would come up with.
What I found real unique was B&W in hi-def was so clear. I think it would have been a nice touch to have a scene or two in that scratchy, grainy typical B&W fashion. Overall this has nothing to do with season 4 story arc but this was a damn fun show to watch.

Yeah, this was a fun one, some of the cracks were really funny. And the B&W gave it a great vibe. This would have been a great Halloween ep, so I'm curious what the real Halloween one will be like. I was a departure from the arc of the season. Without totally forgetting what's going on though, there was still a comment from Dean and some thought from him on their 'world'. My mom was wathing her tape before I got to mine, and she kept saying how funny this and that was. The end of the ep with the liederhosen was funny. *L*

I was a bit bored watching this episode. I thought it was a good concept, having a black and white classic horror flick. Having Dracula, the wolf man and the mummy all have guest appearances was cool, but I found myself loosing interest. Plus the jump from finding that napkin with the lipstick on it to figuring out who the shifter was was a bit of a stretch!
