Sam and Dean (Jensen Ackles) finally make contact with their father, but he tells them to stop looking for him and sends them on another ghost-hunting job. Frustrated with their father's evasiveness, Sam sets out alone to find him while Dean stays back to obey his father. Dean investigates a small town in Indiana where couples have gone missing the same day each year and discovers the farmers are sacrificing them to a Pagan God who takes the form of a scarecrow. While en route to California, Sam meets Meg (Nicki Aycox), a young backpacker, who unbeknownst to Sam is working for a demon.

And whoa Cigarette Smoking Man in this ep!

This isn't an urban legend I've heard about before, but it was pretty creepy. And interesting new story arc with the hitchiker girl.

Yeah i think it is an actual urban legend. I've seen this on alot of T.v shows about sacrifice to a scarecrow. In fact theres a few movies about it out to. I loved the episode..I loved how He was still thinking of a plan hours later lol. The hitchhiker girl is interesting at first i was thinking she was a bit ummm mental.

Dean used my word! Well, it's mine and my ex-girlfriend's word. Fugly.

I'm pretty sure we weren't the first to use it, of course, but we used it before "Mean Girls" used it. :D

That scene was funny.

The episode so far is pretty good...the tone and everything seems to be going a different direction that wat I predicted back at the pilot. All these arcs...hmm.

People have been using fugly for a long time lol ;)

Yeah that's what I figured, lol. But we were the first ones in OUR area. :D

And this episode is getting better by the minute. A little disturbing. CSM wasn't as annoying here as he was in The X-Files.

But anyhoo.

OK...so that ending was a little weird. The scarecrow god took the old people, dragged them off, and then it was morning and then they burn a tree. That was anticlimatic. But the VERY end was much more intriguing...but damn it, that was WAAYY to Buffy-ish! With all this pagan crap. I mean, it's good, but it goes against what the show was said to be at the beginning...I dunno, I don't know what to think.

And what exactly was the pagan god? Where does it fit in? Because pretty soon, I think it's next week, they'll be talking about GOD God so I don't get it...

I about jumped out of my seat when I saw CSM! He always plays a bad guy, though.

Was it just me or was there a lot of "The Wizard of Oz" references in this episode? "If I only had a brain?" Scarecrow? Aunt Stacy, Uncle Harvey (Auntie Em, Uncle Henry)? Or was this my imagination?

I wasn't paying that close attention but I guess the writers decided to have fun. :)

Speaking of...there's this kick-ass song by Breaking Benjamin called "Home", with tons of Wizard of Oz references. :D

And it's not corny like it sounds, either, lol.

So, I'll have to watch this one again. Was evil hitchhiker girl trying to split Sam and Dean up? Or, she wanted Sam to lead her to their dad? Thank goodness for VCRs...

I think I may know the answer, if you want to go see the spoilers for the episode "Shadow".

I'm going to rewatch it again, too.

I saw this episode and I thought it was good. I liked the whole scarecrow thing. The ending I thought was kinda blah. I wasn't really expecting something like that to happen. And is it just me or is Dean getting in trouble with every sheriff of every town getting kinda old? Overall, I give the ep a 7/10.

Yeah, Sam and Dean each have their "deal", their personality, like Mulder and Scully. Dean's always too confrontational...

But, I thought this ep actually broke the pattern just a little, in that Dean acknowledged to himself that he really needs Sam's smooth delivery, credibility, to get some things done (like convince that one young couple to leave town before nightfall). At the end, seemed like each came to realize that they compliment the other.
