Well? :P

I like it, but not half as much as I liked the books. On the one hand, I liked how they changed Rene from a local to a random new guy. I also like how Bill now has a renegade daughter.

But on the other hand, I didn't like at all how they sexualised the characters, and made Jason into a V addict (aside: V is also an energy drink here XD gives a whole new meaning to that). Tara and Sam's relationship seemed somewhat irrelevant, as did the exorcisms.

But that's just me.

I really enjoyed it-I read the 1st book AFTER the season ended so I have different feelings about the show. I noticed in the book V isnt that big of a storyline and neither is Jason. When I rewatch the episodes I fast forward through most of Jasons part! LOL

It mirrored the entertaining and edge-of-your seat thrills as the book. The cast did a superb job bringing the characters to life. I think Alan Ball interpreted the book well for television. Though nicely done I'm concerned about some issues in the plot such as Jason's addiction to V. I laughed hard during the hospital scene but I'm wondering if they're going to dump it or keep it as part of the story. Going from what I read, I don't believe the FotS would be as forgiving to Jason if they knew he had done it willingly and enjoyed it. I'd like to think they would consider him unclean and want to do something about it in their own twisted ways. The other thing that I didn't like plotwise is Bill's attitude towards Eric. Bill in the show often treats him is as if he were his equal whereas in the book he's more submissive and knows his place. I also don't like how far the writers went with the relationship between Sookie and Sam. I too didn't see a point to the exorcism though they were entertaining to watch nonetheless. And of course I'm saddened that we won't have Bubba who plays a semi-major role and they managed to eliminate the need for his character (ie Bill asking Sam to protect Sookie instead). It worked out alright though.

One a scale of 1 to 10, I give it an 8.

The show was a little off, but I think it did well. I was dissapointed that they went totally off base with Tara and Pam. I look back at the shows, after reading the series, and I wish they had done a few things differently. Oh! The maenad. What the hell!!!? They attached her character to Sam right away instead of using Sookie. WTF? That kind of upset me.

All in all I thought the first season was pretty good. I'm not happy with some of the deviation from the book, like Bill staking Long Shadow instead of Eric. And what was up with Bill making that horrific little vamp?! I suppose she could take the place of the villainous Lorena in some capacity. I just hope Sookie stakes her soon so we'll be through with her annoying presence. Jason's character got way more time in the show than he did in the book and it should have stayed that way. Ugh, everything about him is so irrelevant. They had also better be careful with that "V" crap too. Sookie didn't experience any hallucinatory effects from taking Bill's blood and she took alot more. It's not consistent and the whole concept of vampire blood is crucial in the story so I hope they don't deviate from that too much. I miss Bubba too. He was funny and sweet. I haven't the slightest clue what they are going to do with Tara, because the show's character is nothing like the one in the book. I can't even speculate especially since she's hangin out with the maenaed. That's just odd.

I only learned about the books after I was already addicted to the show (thank you on demand!). So I didn't have anything to compare it to until after I got the books for Christmas.

Anyway- I absolutely loved it. I could have done without Tara completely. I don't like her. I'm not entirely sure why, I just don't. She's kind of too b*tchy for me. She's also always talking about "oh poor me I'm this" or "oh poor me I'm that". Wah. That's all I hear when she has dialog.

I think Bill was very much more likable in the show than he is in the books. But because I saw the show first, it didn't matter one bit..he was still a hottie lol. I think that they should have made him a little more like the books, a little less like able I guess.

I also liked how they made Rene some random guy instead of Arlenes second husband. It made more sense to me.

I like the series, and it's interesting to watch BUT I don't like the Bill-Sookie relationship on the show (as opposed to the books). Not that I'm a big Bill fan, but I just didn't see them as a "couple" on the show. Which I guess *spoiler if you haven't read the books* could be by design, to set up the breakup, but then that begs the question of whether Bill really ever loved Sookie? Which I think in the books he did. BUT they might be saying that at this point in the story, he's there because he's supposed to be.

I DON'T like the change to Jason, though I like Ryan's portrayal. I just don't like the V storyline and the kidnapping a vampire thing. Though I did like the interaction between Jason and his captive.

And I wish they'd kept Tara a more marginal character. Not that I have anything against the actress playing her, I just don't think she should be as central a character. And having her and Sam have a thing just sullies the whole Sam unrequited Sookie love thing.

SO to sum up I think it's a good show, but it's not the same as the books and I have trouble really thinking of them as the same story lol

I liked the show but of course not as much as the book. I thought the Tara thing was kinda weird because she isn't mentioned that much in the first couple of books but she was a major character on the show. Same goes for Lafayette. He had a lot more presence in the show than the books, but he did a damn fine job in the show. He tripped me out every time he was on-screen. :rotflmao:

But, there is something really bothering me. IIRC, Sookie has blue eyes in the book but in the show she has brown eyes. :wtf: Am I the only one that noticed that?

Anna Paquin thought about contacts but decided against them because they're irritating and she didn't want to commit to them for several years. Bill's supposed to be dark eyed, so I guess the two of them kind of switched places.

And I kind of disagree about the Tara thing. I like her as a character. The books are from Sookie's perspective, which would get boring (for me) as a TV show. You can't talk about thoughts the way you can write about them, and much as I love Anna Paquin I'd get tired of looking at her trying to emote what Sookie's thinking all the time. Better to have other characters for her to talk to, and to get interested in.

I read all the books and loved them, but I think they'd be impossible to translate exactly to the screen and keep their magic. They needed to be adapted.

I understand your point about Tara. I guess I was just suprised that she had such a big role in the TV show, but it didnt bother me that much. I really liked Lafeyette......I wish they would have kept him around longer. :(

I love Bill's character in the show...Stephen is hot...Although some scenes were not faithful to what was written on the books (i.e. steaking Longshadow, etc), I think Allan Ball did just great because he conveyed on the series THE LIFE/INTENT OF EACH CHARACTER - like that of Bill's. He very well reitereated in the tv show that his love for Sookie is deep to the extent of sacrificing his "life for her (this was mentioned in Book 8 by Bill to Sookie, in front of Eric, Victor, Amelia, and Fran)...In this case bill outshines Eric. I'm just wondering how they are going to play the seen of Bill's betrayal (in the books)...but I hope Allan will stick up to Bill and Sookie in the end - despite their relationship's ups and lows...

In the TV series, I think of Eric's character as manipulative of Bill - abuses his power to steal Sookie from him. Eric wants to have what Bill has - to steal Sookie at all costs by exposing Bill's faults...hope this doesn't happen in the series...

I will give it 9/10 because of Bill and Sookie's love...BILL ALL THE WAY!

@bloodlust80: I am 100% with you on Lafayette. What a great characterization! The actor is fabulous and really made me care about Lafayette. If the show follows the books, it makes what Sookie goes through later more understandable. You can really see why he was important enough for her to want to find out exactly what happened, which wasn't really clear in the books.

@rachel1711: I'm definitely in the Bill camp in the show. Stephen Moyer just appeals to me more than Alexander Skarsgard. I'm a sucker for dark hair, what can I tell you? But the books really could go either way for me. I trust Charlaine Harris to make me believe in who ever she ends up with. Bill needs to grow up (ironically, given his age) and be open with Sookie to win her -- but Eric's soft side is pretty charming, and I can see her falling in love with him too. I can't wait to see what happens in the next book.

I'm Bill all the way...I also like Eric, but not so much with his character - how he uses his power to get Sookie from Bill...it's just not right since Bill found her first...sighhhh....I will definitely have the next installment...can't wait...;)

See, that's the thing......Bill might have found her first but not in an innocent and truthful way. Sookie was only a job to him in the begining. I'm very interested in seeing how Alan Ball will translate Bill's betrayal on-screen.

Just finished watching it, and I loved it. I've already rewatched a couple episodes here and there and I'm planning on rewatching the entire first season in a single sitting, again.

It's got me interested enough that now I want to read the novels. So first chance I get I'm gonna head to the library and check a couple out. Anyway, when does season 2 start? It's only been a few days and already I'm chomping at the bit for the next season. :D

Oooh, a TB marathon would be fun. Can't wait for it to come on demand again, since someone deleted all my episodes off the Tivo...

Season 2 starts in mid-June, according to rumor. I don't think the date has been officially released, but I heard June 14th.

June? Ouch! Pretty long wait. And here I was hoping my being late to the party would mean I was just in time for season 2. ;) So much for that.

And yep, the entire season back-to-back is how I first watched them. It was 11 at night the other night, and I had some copies a friend of mine gave me a while back, so I thought I'd watch the pilot before I went to bed. Then when it was over, I figured "Yeah, it's not too late. Let me watch the second episode before I pack it in". Then I watched the third, the fourth, the fifth, etc. Didn't end up going to sleep til almost 11 am the next day! Absolutely awesome show, and I can't wait for more. :)

Back-to-back is definitely fun. I envy you having that experience!! What was it that really pulled you into the show?

I had heard nothing but good things about this series, everyone ranting and raving, so finally set down to watch season 1.

And it was amazing, I was hooked after episode 1, couldn't turn it off, I actually skipped my last class in college came home yesterday and watched it!

It was so good, I really like all the characters. I really liked Reene, didn't see thet twist coming at the end!

Im looking forward to starting season 2!

See, I had Rene pegged from the beginning. I was so proud of myself because I usually peg it wrong. In fact, I almost always do...so I was doing a happy dance when I turned out to be right. LOL.
I loved season one as well and was equally as hooked. After episode 3 I went and bought book one of the book series. And from there I have been a die hard Sookie Stackhouse follower. I think the books are phenomenal. They practically read themselves, and the show (although it follows a basic storyline) dosent always mirror the books, but Alan Ball's view is seriously intense. Excellent stuff. :)

I really disliked season 1 actually, perhaps it was coming off the books but the only thing that really made it worthwile for me was Eric and Pam and Lafayette. Oh and Rene, he was good too.

Anna Paquin's 'Sookie' was endlessly annoying to me.
The changes made to 'Tara's' character equally so. I just didn't see the need for the constantly angry best friend, her character left me completely cold.
and 'Sam'... oh wow, couldn't they have found a cute guy? I mean someone who didn't look like an old mop that had been standing in a corner for three years :S

And the 'popping' fangs... haha I thought I was going to laugh myself to bits that first epsiode when Bill's fangs literally pop out with a little click noise. Lol.

I've re-watched a few of these eps and I have warmed somewhat to s1 but I still think s2 is miles and miles better. ('cept for Eric's cropped hair)

I really liked the first season. They stayed pretty close up to a certain point. But even then, I didn't really mind. With the books, it is like Sookie is the main character and everything revolves around her in the books. In the show, it is more of ensemble show. Of course they would need to write more things to keep the other characters from falling from the spotlight of the show. I actually watched a video with Charlene Harris, she said she loved watching the show. She never knew what would happen next. :D

They need to write Tara into the background the way she is in the books because all of her storylines suckThey should have kept the original actress they had playing her as well. And I wish there was a t least SOME chemistry between Sookie and Bill. But I guess it's true what they say, that when there's no chemistry on screen there's a ton off screen.

Tara in the book in more interesting than the character on the show. They really strayed with her personality. Would it kill them to make her a little bit nicer??? It seems like in the first season, Bill and Sookie are always fighting with each other. Which, that could be where the lack of chemistry is coming from. I remember in the book it wasn't like that.

I really liked the actor who played Renee. He did such a good job. :D :D
