Summary:

While battling a demon, Dean (Jensen Ackles) is electrocuted, resulting in permanent damage to his heart and leaving him with only a couple of months to live. A despondent Sam (Jared Padalecki) searches desperately for a way to save his brother and believes he may have found an answer through a preacher who claims to heal the incurable. However, Dean and Sam discover that the preacher is getting help from the Grim Reaper who is trading one life for another he feels is less worthy.

I really enjoyed this one! I loved seeing Darla from BtVS and Angel in it!

The thing that kept running through my head is that Dean is really traumatized by this. That surprised me more than I thought it would. I just figured that he'd bounce out of it and be the same old Dean.

Loved Sam's phone call to John. Loved that he thought he could take care of it himself.

Finally, I nearly fell off my chair laughing at Dean's line about God needing to save us from the people who think they're doing God's will. That was great!

I feel redundant typing here what I already posted on tv.com >.< All in all, this episode was good stuff.

It was so great to see Julie... She looked amazing and her performance was great. I loved how Dean was still making cracks, even when he was in the hospital and how he checked himself out lol. I really wasn't expecting the Wife to be involved like that.

I agree that Julie was really great in this episode - props to the hometown girl ;)

The Reapers reminded me of the Gentlemen from Buffy for some reason - must be the suits and the creepiness. It was sort of nice that the preacher wasn't in the know of what was going on - sad that he honestly believed he was doing good.

An interesting question comes out of it though - were they right to keep him from healing Layla?

Its never right to cheat death really is it? I mean Someone would have had to die for her to live... Its not right to play god. I agree on the reaper resembling the gentlemen now that i think of it.

But to that Were they right question, I think it was right...They didn't know what was happening when he healed dean, but when they found out it was right for them to stop it cause no one should play god BUT god. If its meant to be it will happen.

It wasn''t a scary ep, in the least, but it was interesting. I was sure the preacher's wife would get reaped in the end, but I thought her life would be exchanged for Layla's somehow. I was actually impressed that Dean and Sam didn't save Layla at the end. It was almost like an ethical, medical decision. Shouldn't exchange one innocent's life for another. You got it Angels baby. Sigh...

I gotta say again, I love the look of this show, all washed out and gray. Julie looked really great (especially for someone who's terminal).

I thought this was one of the very best episodes yet...I enjoyed it more than "Scarecrow". I agree that it wasn't scary or even suspenseful, but I still really liked it. I was really sad that Layla is going to die, even though I know it's better it ended that way. The conversation between Dean and Layla at the end was a little "touching", I guess you could say.

The only thing I don't like about the ep is that I can't stand the idea of reapers. I don't understand why so many movies and shows make death some monster or intelligent entity or whatever. It's good entertainment and all, but when I think about it later, it annoys me. Death is just a state of being, not a real THING. But I guess that's not important.

I liked the guy who played the preacher guy, and I'm glad they made him out to be a victim, not the bad guy. And at the same time, it's not like his wife was "evil" or anything - she was just desperate and crazy, but I'm glad she died. I actually DID think she was just evii until the scene in the cellar.

I also didn't find Sam annoying in this episode. Yay! He got on my nerves in "Scarecrow" and a tad in "Asylum".

I'd probably give this episode a 9/10.

I like the episode, besides only paying attention half the time. i still thought it was good.
Seeing Julie Benz in it was cool. yeah, i knew she was gonna be in it. i just forgot.
When they found out that it was reapers and The Blue Oyster Cult i laughed for a while. It was really cool that they put it in.
Like everyone else i genearlly liked the episode.

This is the first episode of this show that I watched. I liked it a lot, but I did notice it was all washed out. Is it always like that? Or just this episode?

I don't mind the idea of a reaper. Although I almost always flash back to Monty Python's Meaning of Life: "There's a Mr. Death here. He's here for the reaping?" "I AM THE GRIM REAPER!" OK, I'm strange!

I also didn't find Sam as annoying in this episode as I thought he was in Scarecrow and Asylum, so I completely agree with you on that.

Although I found it sad that Layla was probably going to die, I was glad they didn't do the Hollywood ending that Layla was going to be miraculously cured.

And I was also so glad that it was Sue Ann who was controlling the reaper and not Roy. The evil preacher is getting to be a cliche. In a "horror" show, such as this, it's always the preacher to be evil. Glad that it was Sue Ann, who was virtually a non-entity half of the show, was the bad. Nice twist.

I'd also give this a 9/10.

Oh, and Mother, don't worry about posting the same thing here and on tv.com. I do it all the time!

Maybe I shouldn't admit that...

Exactly what I was trying to say :)

Also agree that it was "nice" that Layla didn't end up saved in the end, though I liked the character and wished she could be. If that makes sense. :)

And I forgot about the song! That was pretty cool lol

That was hilarious. I couldn't decide if it was the dumbest cliche in the world or just a fun bit of playfulness on the show's part, lol. How many shows have used that song in that sort of context? It made me think of The Stand, when it was a TV miniseries, years ago.

Well I've seen tons of movies and shows that use songs in that way...so I don't really consider it cheesy. I thought it was cool, lol.

It just struck me as weird comic relief in the middle of this sad, serious ep, heh. But, I was thinking...it works in the sense that Supernatural is always humming along with that classic rock soundtrack. I'm sure Dean has Blue Oyster Cult on tape.

Yeah, lol, I'm sure he does. But I'm with Sam - Dean has GOT to get rid of those cassette tapes.

I totally agree. In fact as I was watching this episode, I IMed a friend of mine who was watching it as well and told her that. She just said I was pathetic for noticing that but It's good to know I'm not the only one that saw the resemblence.

I was very happy with this episode mainly becuase they played the song I have been waiting since the pilot to hear: "Don't Fear the Reaper" by Blue Oyster Clut. I am a big fan of theirs and I was dancing around my room when I heard that start to play. I even started belting out the lyrics with the song and my older brother came into my room, looked at me, shook his head, and then left for work. Luckily I was home alone at the end of this episode because I just bitched out the t.v. I tend to do that a lot. Anyhoo...I really enjoyed this episode and I loved seeing Julie in it. It reminded of when she was in labor with Connor as Darla on Angel.

This ep was brilliant, I agree it was cool to see Julie again!

The Ep it's self was very good, really powerful performances from everyone, especially Dean, which I also found surprising! I really like the whole, can you chose who to save theme in the ep.

And I also agree with all the comments about being Glad the preacher was not the one, and that Layla did not get a one of those Happy endings(You know what I mean)

I actually wanted Layla to have that cliche happy ending. I felt really sorry for her at the end when she didn't get cured after a long time praying and believing. It broke my heart when Layla said she felt the same after the preacher touched her. Julie gave a great performance this episode. It's funny how she can play the sweetest girl in one show and play an evil vampire in the other. I'm also glad that the preacher wasn't the bad guy and that he really thought he was doing good.
